Two years ago I decided to make a stuffed Ohmu from Nausicaa even though I had never made a plush toy before. I got as far as sewing together a make-shift pattern out of paper towels but I didn't actually take the next step of stuffing it before the pandemic kicked off and I didn't touch it again until this month.

Deflated little paper towel Ohmu.

But once I got goin' earlier this month, I really got goin'. (Not picture here is the original prototype, these two are the tweaked follow-ups.

For the very first one (not pictured stuffed) I traced the outline of a screenshot of a full Ohmu in profile, but that exact copy didn't have the sense of proportions that the animated version gave me, so I messed around with increasing and shifting the hump until it basically felt like my memory of an Ohmu's dimensions.

Unfortunately, Tig felt that all my little paper towel Ohmus were made specifically for her and they suffered many grievous injuries at the tips of her sharp little fangs and claws.

The stuffing was provided by this retired, lumpy Ikea pillow that has been hanging out on my "I Might Be Able to Use This for Something Someday" shelf in the basement for the last couple years and I am vindicated in once again proving Matt wrong in his assessment that "This is garbage why are you saving garbage honey please you have a problem."

Then I drew it up and, with Matt's coloring assistance, got it ready for printing onto fabric.

I started composing this post last week and in the time since the picture above, not only did I send in my print order but my fabric just came in today! It is.... not what I expected. Oh my.

Let me work with it a little and I'll get you an update soon.

I need a giant couch-sized one with the squishy orange noodle tentacles that come out when they pick her up, so I can wrap myself up in them when I feel sad about the state of our planet.
