Sketches (Patreon)

All the artists I know are sketchers, doodlers, downtime drawers. Before comics became my full time job, I also used to draw for fun, but about a decade ago I just kinda stopped. Drawing = work, so when I’m off the clock I sew or collage or paper craft or do anything else that I can with my hands. Every now and then I have a burst of sketching, though, and right now is that time, the time to DRAW.
This black notebook I got at- you guessed it- Goodwill. I used torn out pages from this book for the black paper figures on Naked City 122, too!
Pretty much all of these drawings are based on photos I’ve saved on Instagram. This pose comes from Jacs Fishbourne, which I misspelled on the page. They produce a ton of photos with great poses and atmosphere, highly recommend. Ooh, and they have a Patreon too, if you’re into that sorta thing.
My regular approach to drawing is lots and lots of soft sketchy lines building on each other till I kind of carve out the shape of what I’m trying to make by darkening up the lines I want to keep.
Most of these are attempts at Ireland Baldwin’s big poofy dress.
My friend from high school runs a fashion company called Copper Union and this is one of their clients in one of their dresses. I also drew a character wearing a Copper Union dress in Let’s Talk About It, too!
My French teacher from high school ❤️ (Yes, I am Instagram friends with a handful of my teachers from high school. They’re rad people!)
Gotta get some Lady Lovely Locks in there, of course.
Maybe I will draw some more sketches and maybe I’ll post them here. Who knows what the future holds. Not me! Not me.
