Been a while since I felt the need to do one of these.

Initially, in the recent chapter, Ashlock used {Progeny Dominion [S]} to get close to the Grand Elder's study so he could then cast {Abyssal Whispers} on him. However, it hasn't been a week since the colosseum, so that could result in potential soul damage for Ashlock. In the next chapter (that I have half written), I was writing a whole scene where Ashlock tries to justify why he felt risking soul damage to establish the telepathic connection with the Grand Elder was a good idea, but it just comes off as stupid.

I then thought up (what I think) is a much better way to handle the situation, so I made a slight change to chapter 172, as shown below:

The Grand Elder felt a soothing chill wash over his mind as he fully absorbed the effects of the pill. Letting out a breath and feeling mentally relaxed, he nodded to Stella, "I'm ready to receive his words."

Stella smiled and snapped her fingers, making a head-sized portal appear right before the Grand Elder's face.

"This is?" He asked.

"Just stick your head through," Stella replied.

The Grand Elder eyed the wobbling portal, but all he could see through it was the black bark of the giant demonic tree on Red Vine Peak.

They aren't going to decapitate me and tell me to meet the immortal in hell, are they?

With a sigh, the Grand Elder leaned forward and stuck his head through. Immediately he felt an immense presence penetrate his mental defenses and overtake his consciousness—forcing him to reel back in his chair.

The portal then snapped closed as a white fog appeared at the edges of his mind. Before he knew it, he began hallucinating floating eyes. Just when he thought it couldn't get any more bizarre, a twisted black tree rapidly grew on his desk between him and Stella, causing him to almost fall out of his chair in shock.

Anyway, chap 173 should be out in a few hours. Working on it now. Thank you for your patience!

I’m sorry sir. We are going back to formula.

In my opinion, the description of the portals is broken. Why doesn't voice pass through the portals, but poison and light do? The description of the portals indicates the connection of the planes of space, creating a passage. Thus, the portal should not differ from the passage through the door. The connection should be total, i.e. voice, light, Qi and skills should flow. The concepts of a Stargate portal and a portal that is a door to another place are mixed up.

The portal is made of spatial-Qi. Other Qi can interact with the spatial Qi that forms the portal and thus tend to damage it rather than pass through. In general, portals are inherently broken from physical perspective. It is just a question of what random properties author wants it to have. IMHO the mile-wide worm was way more of a nonsensical part than other things.
