Hey Squad, I would like your opinion-! (definitely leave a comment if you got the time to flush out your take) - In the next vid we're going to be talking about a subject that I feel is extremely under-explored. I had a good discussion with some other software users, and they pointed out something of a paradox within Blender that I do think is worth giving thought, and that is, at what point does a paid add-on defeat the point of Blender being free? - The best retopo addons are well over $100 bucks, the best facial MoCap shape key addon is $100, auto rig pro is like $40, and there are many other paid addons for other things like modeling, and UV editing, that when you total up all the prices, you're more than half way to just purchasing the pro software like substance or zBrush for the permanent license. The irony being even if Blender is free, all the best add-ons for it are usually paid. So, I wanted to ask, if you knew an add-on would increase your productivity by 5x. How much would you be willing to pay for it?

Bonus points for explaining your reasoning in the comments-!

I have’s purchased several $100 of addons, and my reasoning three fold 1: I’m explicitly paying for the features I am guarded to use daily. The ROI cannot be understated 2: Small company support is super important to me. I have no love for Adobe/Autodesk, so I’ll put my money into competitors 3: Super popular addons can be absorbed into Blender as a standard offering, so supporting development now can lead to others benefiting in the future.

I am at a crossroads between 20 and 50. I do like the fact that blender is free but the developers who make addons are often a small group of people or even a one-person staff who could use any cash to continue their work. But it's kind of comes down to how well the addon work or what it does that will lean me to purchase it, including if it's something I need I would go as far as paying 100 for it.
