Ayla here is a savage cave woman from a classic rpg called Chrono Trigger. Well "classic" may be a bit of an understatement in this case. To the right crowd, it's regarded as one of the greatest games of all time. Am I part of that crowd? Yes. Yes I am. 

I thought rpgs were dumb before this game came along. But Chrono Trigger's stunning presentation lured me out of my comfort zone and I was immediately hooked. I still play it at least once every couple of years, hoping it's been long enough that I no longer have all the dialog memorized. It never has been yet, but I still have fun anyway. 

Speaking of dialog, Ayla was a fun wildcard in that respect. The game had a very interesting mechanic where the text spoken by your team would change depending on who you happened to bring with you. And since you could rarely bring your whole team to any given story event, this made it feel like you'd never get the same story twice no matter how many times you played. Of all the characters though, Ayla was the one most likely to make you laugh if you brought her along. While the other teammates would respond to gravely serious scenarios with appropriate concern, Ayla would often ask (usually in monosyllables) if the problem was simply something she could eat, or punch until it stops making noise. To this day, my kind of girl. :)
