I always liked the look of Motoko Kusanagi from the popular anime series, Ghost in the Shell. Though my familiarity with the character pretty much stops at the first movie released in 1995. I had no idea what was even going on for half the movie, but it was so beautiful to watch I found it engrossing all the same.

There was also a TV series called Standalone Complex released, which is where this particular pic takes its visual inspiration from. (What can I say, I thought she looked hotter in the show than the movie.) I've only seen an episode or two, years ago. I found it was extremely authentic to the original film, in that at any given time I had no idea what the hell was going on. But again, that was quite some time ago. Maybe I should give it another try? What do you guys think of the movies, the comics, or the series overall? As always I'd love to hear it in the comments.

Standalone Complex and 2nd Gig were both great series, they still hold up today. Most of the movies I still enjoy, but it's kinda hard to get through the older ones, mainly just because of age. I don't remember the name, but there's even another tv series where it's the Major in her younger years, when she meets up with the rest of her crew. I've only seen a bit of it, but it still seems good.

Lord of Nightmares

Essentially the first season of Stand alone Complex is the "B Story" from Shiro's original manga with other stuff thrown in. The action there cuts back and forth between that an the movie, which is a little disjointing so they dropped it, also it would have made the movie a lot longer (they also dropped some of the crazy cyborg/AR/internet sex scenes). It also take inspiration from other stories, adds a bit of new stuff and then the second season attempts a different setup for the movie sorta. Its a worthwhile series.

Senoj Nai

There's an episode where she goes undercover as a high-end sexbot.

Omg. The TV series is amazing and definitely a must see of animes. The first and second seasons have very different and unique plats and the characters are amazingly developed.

ScuzzBucket

I found the movie and show very boring and full of pretentious, first-year Psychology 101 stuff. That said, the manga is more humorous and entertaining, to me.

There is supposed to be a new one that (of course) Netflix is creating. I expected a lot of brooding a slow built high concept suspense with 10% less boobs.

Enjoying your holiday? What you been up to?

I loved this series, I watched the movie before I started to die hard Dragon ball z. I still keep up with ghost in the shell today as it will always be my first anime. Also, just letting you know, the major is actually more interested in girls. The way her body model works is her senses are so strong that she can't have sex with people with the same body model series, and she isn't interested in guys in general. She actually spends her romantic time having virtual girl on girl sex. Sorry for all the info, I'm just really passionate about the series l ;) love the pick though.

Reinbach

Yeah it seems like a pretty solid series considering how many iterations its had.

Sounds like the praise is pretty high overall. I'll have to track it down. :)

A bit more lesbian sex in the manga from what I hear, if you can find the uncut version that is.

Mostly work, but I have gotten outside a couple of times to embarrass myself in front of the locals with my lack of understanding. :D
