Patreon Pin Up 1/29/18 (Patreon)

My knowledge of the anime/manga, One Piece, is limited. (I'll get to that in a minute.) But one thing I DO know is that it's more popular than Naruto. Nami here positively crushed Sakura in the poll I posted last week. Been awhile since I've had one so one-sided. 

I actually have a bit of history with One Piece. Once upon a time I was working at resort on San Juan Island, living out of my car and surviving on cheap diner food and coin operated showers. Needless to say my entertainment options were limited, as this was before everyone had the internet on their phone. 

But somehow I got my grubby little hands on a copy of the first volume of One Piece. And I must have read that thing a hundred times under the dome light in my car. I loved the characters and was hooked. Once I got back to civilization I looked into buying more books, and was naturally disappointed to find it was one of those ones that went on for hundreds of volumes, an immediate deal breaker for me. 

I thought I'd try the anime but that didn't fare so well for me either. The fact that I prefer English dubs didn't help, as the translated version of the show was marketed to kids and censored savagely. Still though, that first book holds a lot of nostalgia for me. And I think fondly of the series, even if I never saw close to all of it.
