I was grateful to Drace Domino for requesting Makoto here, as she just barely didn't make it into the Persona month I did recently. I loved her as a character in Persona 5 but she just didn't have the overt sex appeal of Ann or Dr. Death. She's still a lot of fun though, if you're in to the admittedly well worn anime archetype of the over-achieving perfect-student, which I totally am. Without spoiling too much my favorite part of the game featuring her is easy to miss.  Once she's instructed by her crooked principal to investigate your roguish team you can find her loitering near your hideout awkwardly hiding behind a newspaper. Don't know why but I fell in love with her right then and there.

The Japanese do love their Perfect Students. Those characters are typically done as hideous nerds with no life in Western media, but in Japan, they're actually looked at with idealism and respect. Like other kids IDOLIZE them. But there's often this undercurrent of how lonely and sad they sometimes are. Naturally, I got into that archetype with Sailor Moon: Sailor Mercury was studious, shy and obsessive about grades, but they made this an amusing thing instead of her sole characteristic- she was also kind, sweet and good-natured. and sometimes a closet romantic, which was adorable :). Nice job with this one! She has interesting hair. I don't understand the references on her legs, but hey- creampie!!

I have noticed that in anime for sure. Getting good grades is such a huge deal over there on Japan. It's a stark contrast to how things are in the US, where we'd never dream of posting test scores publicly in a school hallway.

My favorite kind of artwork from you. Thanks for making my day.

Sweeeeet. Looking forward to showing this off tomorrow for sure. As a side note one thing I didn't notice at first but I love; the juice lines from her fingers as she spreads herself. That's such a little detail that makes the picture really pop.

Yeah, it's such a huge deal, and grades so all-important (students even commit suicide!), that a lot of anime and entertainment there is more fo a "release" from lives of toil and drudgery. I think a lot of Westerners come over there and get disappointed that not everyone acts like anime people- Japanese folks tend to be extraordinarily reserved, introverted and quiet. If anime was realistic, it'd be a bunch of people barely talking to each other :).

I doubt that's a spoiler. And the cool thing about that game is that there are so many characters they've got someone for everyone. :)
