For Oaks question about "Did they have this much adult stuff in movies back then?" there's a noticeable bell curve that swung down probably right around when you were kids. Back during the "birth" of animation in the '30s and '40s they did have "All Ages" comedy because animation was connected to feature films in theaters. Cartoon shorts were shown along with news clips, coming attractions, etc. in between main features and at all times of the day. They had to pair simultaneously with a "kids movie" or an "adult movie", so they had grown up humor running through to make sure that everybody would enjoy it no matter the audience. This started to leave cartoons in the '70s and '80s because with the rise of TV and home media they became DEDICATED for little kids. It was expected that adults would only watch them in the role of parents supervising their kids, not watching them on their own. So they adult humor went away to maximize the appeal to kids. The '90s is when it started to swing back, which is why you're noticing it so much more here and in other late-'90s/early-'00s films.
