The episode depicts the tragic passing of Tamerlane, illustrating how her mental decline played a role. The older Usher siblings, with the assistance of Pym, are fervently searching for Verna, suspecting a link between her and the recent deaths.

The revelation that Verna is deliberately targeting the Usher family has Pym and Madeline deeply concerned, especially considering her apparent desire to be found. The unfolding situation introduces an undeniable element of danger. Nonetheless, the cast and crew delivered yet another outstanding episode, showcasing their storytelling prowess and keeping viewers on the edge of their seats.

There's usually is some sort of symbolism that Mike Flanagan uses; like in Hill House each child represented one of the five stages of grief (Steve is denial, Shirley is anger, Theo is bargaining, Luke is depression, and Nell is acceptance). In Poe's The Masque of the Red Death, there's a masquerade ball with seven rooms illuminated with different colors that each symbolize different stages in life. So similar to that story Flanagan uses color for each descendant; they each wear mainly one color that is also reflected in their environments and even lighting in the scenes they're in. Perry: Red Camille: White Leo: Yellow Vic: Orange Tammy: Green Frauderick: Blue Lenore: Black So I think it's not quite as deep as in Hill House, but still an interesting aethesthic that obviously wasn't done without meaning.

2023-11-16 21:40:03 There's a theory that the Usher family symbolizes the seven deadly sins like Oak was kind of suggesting: Roderick and Madeline: Greed Perry: Lust Camille: Envy Leo: Sloth Vic: Pride Tammy: Gluttony Frauderick: Wrath Although I believe I saw somewhere that Flanagan actually responded to the theory and said it wasn't his intention to have the kids represent the deadly sins.

Personally I think tamerlanes death is the most beautifully shot. The slow motion, the color, the music.
