Underworld Rise of the Lycans takes us deep into the origins of the timeless war between vampires and Lycans (werewolves) in the dark, Gothic world created by Len Wiseman. Serving as a prequel to the original Underworld series, this film offers a fresh perspective on the age-old conflict, shedding light on the events that set the stage for the ongoing blood feud.

The film explores the forbidden love between the Lycan leader, Lucian (Michael Sheen), and the vampire aristocrat's daughter, Sonja (Rhona Mitra). The narrative kind of follows a predictable path of love, betrayal, and vengeance. The story lacks some of the complexity and intrigue seen in the earlier films, making it less compelling. However, it does provide valuable backstory for the characters and events that fans of the series will appreciate.

Michael Sheen delivers a standout performance as Lucian, showcasing his dedication to the role and adding depth to his character. Rhona Mitra as Sonja also gives a commendable performance, bringing the necessary emotional weight to her character. Bill Nighy, reprising his role as Viktor, delivers a menacing and memorable performance as the ruthless vampire elder. Other returning characters, such as Kraven (Shane Brolly), provide continuity with the previous films.

One of the film's strengths lies in its action sequences and dark, atmospheric visuals. The stylized battles between vampires and Lycans are well-choreographed, maintaining the series' signature blend of gunplay and hand-to-hand combat. The Gothic aesthetics of the Underworld world are still visually striking and effectively set the tone for the film. Looking forward to the next one in the Underworld series.

The post apocalyptic movie with Rhona Mitra that you were thinking of is Doomsday. It was written and directed by Neil Marshall, the same guy who did the werewolf movie, Dog Soldiers, that I recommended to you guys when you watched the first Underworld.

Let’s goooooo! 💪 I’ve yet to delve into the first two with y’all (been a crazy month), can’t wait to catch up this weekend! These are unironically my favorite movies of all time I’m not gonna lie 🤣 When Kevin Grevioux, Len Wiseman, and Patrick Tatopoulos (set design) come together, to me, it’s a masterpiece ☺️ I love Kevin’s take on vampirism and lycanthropy, being that it’s more of a mutagen, which I believe he came up with due to his microbiology background. So interesting. Kevin wrote a ton of graphic novels afterwards as well, Raze’s character background is a really interesting read/watch (I’ve seen some YouTube summaries around). Hope you guys enjoyed it! 🤙

I haven’t watched this franchise in so long but I do enjoy it & I think this was my favorite one. Hope you do Hollow Man, that would be a fun watch!

I wish there was more story. The movie was too short. This could've been a great TV series because all vampire shows these days are very modern. I'd like to see one that actually takes place in the beginning.

Rhona Mitra is smoking hot. I first saw her in 'The Practice' and then she went to 'Boston Legal' with James Spader. Love that show. ❤ She WAS in 'Doomsday' about a virus outbreak in 2008. I thought it was just ok, only watched it for her.

I'll always know her from 'A Kid in Alladin's Palace' in the 90s 😂 And agreed, absolutely gorgeous.

I love that we keep bringing up Twilight's wolves, and in terms of technical effects and cgi, the comments are valid. But technically, they aren't actually werewolves. Nobody except Edward (mindreader that he is) and obviously the tribe knew until the confrontation with the Volturi in Breaking Dawn because Aro's brother Cauis, played by Jaime Campbell Bower, kept trying to come up with reasons to start a fight with the Cullens. He even said it in the move, that the Cullens were consorting with the vampires' natural enemy, werewolves. In the movie, the comment is brushed off. But in the book, Edward reveals that the Quileutes are not werewolves at all, but genetic skinchangers/shapeshifters that just so happen to change into wolves. Which is why they turn into just really big wolves rather than the traditional werewolf. Also, fun fact: that scene that Oak hated so much of the pack having the meeting to decide if they were going to kill Rennesme or not, and they are all speaking into each other's minds, the filmmakers weren't just being cheap and making stuff up. The wolves are written to be able to read the minds of all their pack members all the time (or just in wolf form, can't remember exactly). But yeah, it was pretty much verbatim how Stephanie Meyer wrote it LOL still so hilarious how y'all hated it so passionately.

Still blows my mind that Vampires can get pregnant haha So not only did Viktor kill his daughter but his grandchild as well!
