This might be the best one out of the 2 so far! And Gollum is amazing in this! What a character.

So we did LoTR in my undergrad, and we read papers on and interviews with Tolkien about LoTR and WW1, and he denied it being relevant - but it could be that he was annoyed with everyone making it a focus and distilling it down to basic metaphors, like 'the English equal Gondor' which led him to his comments because he was also deeply affected by the war. Either way, I think it's safe to say that he must have been commenting on/alluding to/'inspired' by WW1 in some respects - I mean, who could not at the time? -, but it seems his focus was on the themes of the heroic/epic fantasy novel in a kind of 'academic' way, and with more reference to biblical themes & good vs. evil, not as a direct social commentary of WW1. He's a very interesting person. On a side note: I hope you guys have seen 'They're Taking the Hobbits to Isengard'! I can't hear Legolas say that without thinking about it.

yep tolkien created many languages for each elven tribe, but also dwarves and men!

most of creatures are practical effect! why it does still holds up to this day? Because there is little cgi.

so actually wizards in this world aren't like what we know now as wizards. They are essentially angel like creatures and were sent in middle earth to help free folk against evil. They aren't allowed to use their full strength. They must use a very small portion of their power and only in greater needs. this is why magic here can't solve everything

The Boromir backstory with Faramir & their Father is definitely the biggest difference from the Original vs Extended Version. Can't wait for you guys to watch the 3rd, it only gets better ! 5/5 for Howard Shore & 5/5 for Sam

To add on to what someone said already. The wizards being essentially angel like beings. They took the form of old looking wise men as to be approachable to regular mortals. They are called Maiar and Gandalf, Sauron, Sauruman, The Balrog demon from the first film are all basically the same thing. They were created by the Valar which are akin to Titans in mythology like Zeus. Tolkien created a world that is absurdly in-depth and covers thousands upon thousands of years and he even invented the entire elf language. It's literally a language you can learn. Just thought I'd share that. Most people are amazed when they figure out just how much there is past the movies

I have literally spent hours on http://tolkiengateway.net reading all this interesting random stuff like Théoden's family history and Elrond being half-Elvish and had a twin brother. Elrond and Elrond (his twin's name) got to choose if they wanted to be immortal like the Elves or mortal like Men and Elrond chose the life of an Elf and Elros picked Men and became the first king of Númenor. The Dúnedain are descended from Elros and make up the nobility in Gondor.
