Am I bad person for being in love with Sofia?

IzzyB33

I am too. I do not think you are alone in those feeling lol

I'm Batman

Yeah magpie is in the DC comics, she first appeared in a Superman comic. Idk much about her though other than she's an expert at hand to hand combat and in some iterations is a member of the suicide squad.

Tomasina Hill

Idk about the comics but I definitely know Summer, the reporter, from Batman The Animated Series

Yeah the 10 year reveal blew my mind away. Before this episode they never said specifically how long she was in there. I thought it'd be somewhere around 1 to 2 years but hearing 10 from Sophia's mouth, my jaw dropped. And I agree with ya Mason, ain't a better show running on TV right now. Every episode has just gotten better and better and better. And not to spoil anything all I'll say is I can't wait for next week's episode after seeing the trailer for episode 5.

Sofia can kill anyone and I don’t see a problem #SofiaDidNothingWrong

I find it insulting that The Penguin and She Hulk/Ms Marvel (bunch of marvel-Disney shows) are comic books based shows, the gap in quality between them is so big…

Dam Sofia killed that episode , if christa doesn't receive an Emmy my mind will be blown . On a rewatch you notice it more that Sofia isn't the hangmang that's how good the show is 😆 what I love aswell it always ends crisp and leaving you wanting more . The penguin is definitely gonna screw Vic over , we saw his true colours and now it's on 🔥

Magpie does come from the comics, and if I remember right she was also in an episode of Gotham in the later seasons. I think the writers wanted a character like Harley Quinn, but they had to look into the source material for something similar because the Reeves movies might use that character later on. I think the purpose of her character was to represent this ultra-feminine girl (the high-pitched voice, childlike POV, etc.) that Sofia would have to kill to survive Arkham. Sofia’s wardrobe pre-Arkham is very girly (floral patterns, bright colors, and so on). It stands out in this very male-dominated environment she’s grown up in, and it’s also why the scene between her and her cousin at her father’s party feels refreshing. For one single moment, we see her being a carefree young girl poking fun at her family. Small BTS, the Portugal.com line was improvised by Cristin to make the actress who plays Carla, laugh. Then once she leaves Arkham, she dresses in suits similar to what Jackie Kennedy would wear which is interesting because Sofia has another connection to the Kennedys. The showrunner stated that Sofia’s story was inspired by Rosemary Kennedy. But once she loses her brother and begins to be pushed out by her family, she wears bolder patterns like armor (the zebra print, jewel tones, lace). The writer of this episode has said that it was important to add all of these elements about being strangled or unable to breathe to represent how Sofia feels suffocated in this world (her smoking habit, the flashbacks/dreams, scratches at her neck). So once she’s back at her doctor’s place she is completely clean. There’s no trace of makeup and her other clothes are gone, she’s washed clean and rebirthed leading to the yellow dress. It’s a feminine look contrasted with the sharp eyeliner and messy hair reminiscent of Joan Jett. No longer is she suffocated by the world around her which makes the massacre of her family almost ironic that instead of just burning the place down or poisoning them, she turns her suffering back on them.

Yea after seeing this episode if vic gets screwed it won’t be surprising at all

Finally watched the show and caught up on your reactions. I didn't get to the show right away, because I don't always love crime shows and although I liked The Batman, I did find parts a little slow and thought I would find this show slow. I heard about Cristin's performance in this episode though and I'm a fan of hers, so I started watching and was hooked on the first episode. This episode was great and Cristin's performance was every bit as good as I heard, but after watching this episode, even though the show is called Penguin, I'm now rooting for Sofia. Also, I didn't like her brother much in the first episode, kind of thought he was an idiot who got himself shot, now I feel sad about his death, because he was the only one who was there for Sofia.
