I know you're not gonna release the 3 as a trio but please tell me you reacted to all 3 in a row 😭😭😭

Lethal Mitch

Oh man I can’t wait to watch this

DustinEatWorld

Please… shadow drop the third one guys 🔥😅🥲😭

Badd Medicine

Dustin, To clarify, there won’t be a third drop this week. From now on, it will be two drops going forward. 🤙

DustinEatWorld

Thx for the clarification guys🙏 Except for the last two „episodes“ i guess? Because they’re almost movie length material 😅

DustinEatWorld

They’re getting a full length theatrical realease in Japan next month with 5.1 sound and improved cuts and animation/cgi. Unfortunately no overseas release date yet.

Vasileios Mitsos

Guys if you remember in one of the final episodes of s3 there was a scene with grisha on the wall before he get the attack titan from the owl and the owl sed you should protect armin and mikasa and grisha asked who are they and he sed he doesnt know whose memories are this wich is a foreshadowing of it power

MoyashiMei

These episodes are so intense and the animation makes a great job into translating those raw emotions. Can't wait for the next episode's reaction! Also, pay attention to the name of the next episode itself and remember the name of the very first episode of the series. Not a spoiler, just a nice detail :)

Ian

Mason Quinn, you pretty much nailed it at 24:30 understanding how the connection between Eren and his Dad with the attack titan

juzism

all I'm going to say is remember the first episodes title (1x1) name for the next episode title

Alexiani Gollarza

Oh yes Mason, if you watch all seasons you will see A LOT of things that literally spell everything for us but we are ignorant to them. Ha! You have made it, get ready, more information comes in the next episode 🔥🔥 my brain went kaboom when I understood the future memories thing. And yes Answer, the look on Eren's face says "I will not give up" AMAZING episode and reaction (I'm still watching the review)

JOJO

welp if i dont make it past hurrican milton to see the next episode ill be haunting badd medicine

lila diana

this is what I’ve been waiting months for, best episode of the show imo

Hamza Pere

Remember where Eren Kruger (The Owl) was talking about Mikasa and Armin before giving the Attack titan to Grisha, you already knew about the ability of the Attack titan hehe

Vasileios Mitsos

what eren used to say is that they are living inside this walls like they are cattle waiting to be eaten keep this also in mind for the next few episodes

Nachtarox x

basically Grisha saw everything through erens(from the future) eyes. He saw himself from behind sitting on this desk while zeke was standing in front of it, because eren was standing behind the sitting grisha at this point

Jae

This episode is one of my favorites. When the show and manga were running many fans theorized that Eeen was always crazy and “about that life.” Having an episode were Zeke was able to see Eren is just the way he is no rhyme or reason was just too good and actual confirmation on this theory. Interestingly, enough most of Eren’s thoughts of freedom come from Armin. Armin showed him a book about the outside world that is illegal to have inside the walls. Once Eren was presented with the idea of the unknown its when his ideals manifested. You see this trait of his throughout the show. The line “ Rather than letting someone steal my freedom, I’ll steal theirs first.” is like the “ah ha” moment when you look back at Eren’s journey. Also many fans did theorize about the attack titan abilities and this was such a good show case. You kinda get the foreshadowing in episode 58 - Attack Titan, when Eren Kruger the guy who gave Eren’s dad Grisha the attack titan he says “to save Mikasa, Armin and everyone else you must see it through” then Grisha says “Mikasa? Armin? Who’s that?” And Kruger reply’s “who knows? I’m not sure…” this scene happens because Kruger was seeing our Eren’s memories/thoughts. Like when I was taking this information on the attack titan I just was in a wow 🤯 that the attack titan is the only titan to be able to interact with past, present and future. The next episode is also another one of my favorites from start to finish. I’m so geeked for next Monday! Rewatching with you guys honestly makes me so jealous that you’re watching this for the first time. I wish I was able to go back and remember everything I was feeling from watching this anime for the first time when it came out in 2013.

Jason Serrano

I would say the only that's similar to this is Dune where a select people can share memories of the past and even future.

Jonas Teigen

Aot is just amazing. In my rewatch all this make sence, and from season 1, 2 and specially 3 gives many hints to this. like late season 3 in Grishas flashback when the owl (the previous Attack titan) said something like "take care of Mikasa and Armin" and Grisha said "who are they?". Then the Owl said "i dont know who`s memories they are" and now its obviously Erens memories. The rewatchability is so good. Alot of early hints of titans, the bad guys and background reveal u wont see unless u pause or pay alot attention too.

Georgie Acero

best way to explain it is that this ALL HAPPENED in the past already. Grisha seeing Eren and Zeke HAPPENED! Nothing about the past changed! We see (future) Zeke and Eren essentially play out what happened in the past, Grisha was able to see them and interact with them. These memories are grisha's, however since Eren is the one that gets the attack titan, grisha is able to see the future through Eren's eyes. The moment that Zeke and Eren are in the basement through the memory is when Grisha is able to see them in REAL TIME. Meaning, (future Eren and Zeke) were visibile to Grisha through Eren's future POV. That's why Grisha was able to see himself and Zeke, it's as if he's seeing himself and Zeke in that room in real time. This creates a confusing perspective to follow. We as the audience see Eren and Zeke, but also Grisha. We see Grisha interacting with and seeing Eren and Zeke BECAUSE EREN IS SEEING GRISHA. Imagine that what Grisha seens is essentially (future) Eren's POV. That's why Grisha is seeing Zeke (old man with a beard) and is able to call out his name and then retract it in disbelief. EREN MADE HIS FATHER KILL THE REISS FAMILY IN THE PAST! THIS IS THE WAY IT HAPPENED! We are just able to see it played it out now. The past did not change at all!

Marbelis

Name of the tittle for first episode - and name of the title for next episode. Look at them

Sean Carroll

Eren basically closed the time loop by convincing his father to kill the reiss family. The entire show could never have happened if zeke didn’t bring eren into grishas memories

Sean Carroll

Also geisha said “I killed the reiss family, all but their father… remember in season 3 rod reiss kidnapped eren and took him and historia into the cave. If grisha killed rod then eren would never have learned about how he got his power and the reiss cave. Historia also would never have become queen which would then never have resulted in eren kissing her hand at the medal ceremony in the season 3 finale and seeing his future memories in that exact moment, remember erens terrified face. Leaving rod alive was crucial to erens future and past plans

Sean Carroll

My sister and I are introducing her boyfriend to attack on titan this week and episodes like this remind me why this show is the greatest show ever

Rex Tan

@Diamond Dave - this is what happened: Grisha to Zeke - Please stop Eren. (This point, he didnt know when the walls will be destroyed or if his family is safe because Future Eren wont show him everything) When Grisha went back and discovered Carla had died, its not shown on screen but you have to imagine his grief and said fuck it and gave Eren his titan to avenge his mother. Basically Eren manipulated Grisha through memories, same as the Owl (Save Mikasa Armin memory), same as past Attack Titans. That's why what the Owl said made sense - "no matter which era this titan has found itself in, it has pushed ever forward, seeking out freedom" because Eren has been showing them select memories.

Papermaker

SOOO EXXCITEEDD!! Happy to be on this journey with you guys!! Soo much more goodies to come!! <3

sami

If this episode wasn't peak for you guys, the next episode is the one. It is where this show cements itself as the greatest thing ever made.

zimy__

Biggest plot twist in history...

Julio Salazar

So just to prepare yall for next few episodes. In manga art or well a lot of comic art. When people are drawn to have those dark lines in the depths of their eye sockets its just to depict stress, anguish, or sadness maybe depression. This episode and the next few really lean heavy into it. There isn't anything nefarious or meaningful besides to show the aforementioned list. Not that you guys said anything about it. Just other reactors I've watched seemed to think it meant more.

J Austin

Someone's probably already commented this but he never actually acknowledges Eren's presence in the memories up until the moment he takes the founding Titan, he only acknowledges Zeke's. This is because, since the Attack Titan's ability is to see memories of it's future inheritors, Grisha is seeing Zeke through Eren's point of view and not necessarily his own. He only knows Eren is with him in the King's hideout because Eren is speaking directly to him through Eren's own (future) memories. This introduces a lot of complexity to the story and can be confusing at first, but once you underand it, it really adds to the overall story.

Buschi

Dave saying "now we got the full context of this scene" only for Eren to show you the missing context a minute later was peak timing. Also most underrated part in this episode is Greishas VA. Like the end of this episode is just elevated to greatness with all the emotion that he put into it.

zimy__

The fact that zeke thought grisha manipulated and brainwashed eren only for that theory to be completely uno reversed is absolutely mind boggling.

e

this season- op aside was phenomenal work and made the 10 years of waiting so worth it

Katie Madsen

I read the manga a few years back as I was tired of waiting for part 2 of season 4, and then I couldn't be bothered to watch part 2 when it finally got animated- so this is my first time watching part 2. Ngl I have forgot everything that happened so currently I'm having the same experience as you four :D so excited each week for these reactions!

e

fiegning for next week's reaction i cannot waitttt

Kaisen Carter

Once you guys have finished the series, it'd be so awesome to see if you reacted to a video compilation of every single time something was foreshadowed throughout the show 🙏 There might be more than you'd think :^) can't wait for next week's episodes 💪🔥🔥

Matthew Jackson

"On your Feet" gives me chills everytime

Ya Boy

Just to confirm what Mason Quinn was saying: I watched this series 10 times from start to finish and I still notice small details that only rewatchers will notice and understand and when you do your mind truly gets blown. Seeing it the first time only made me appreciate half of what the writer Hajime tries to tell in this story. For example, double meanings in random dialogue that doesn't seem like anything out of the ordinary until you have the full context. Writer really mapped out every little detail before even starting which is insane considering the length of this series. Anyway, great reaction as always, I am a fan forever.

Ghada

at the end of season 3 when Kruger who had the Attack Titan before Grisha was saying to Grisha "To save Armin and Mikasa you have to do this" then Grisha said who are Armin and Mikasa? Kruger said I don't know whose memories these are... Now it's all connected it was Eren's memories and because Kruger is an Attack Titan he can see Eren and Grisha's future memories

KamiGema

I wrote this ahead of time because I theorized confusion would arise here. I hope you read my comment for clarity. Luckily the 4 of you have all seen a specific movie that will help me explain what is happening. (ARRIVALS) First thing to Know: Attack Titan Can see glimpses of the future holders and the past holders. Menaing, if skilled enough the can influence and manipulate those people. Second thing to know: Butterfly effect. Try to think of the idea of, “The Butterfly Effect”. The Butterfly effect is the idea that there are many possibilities in life, but some things can branch off and change leading to other possibilities via cause and effect. Third is not too necessary, but it’s: The Paths, the Paths are what connect every Eldian almost like their own personal “afterlife/Hivemind” Now that we have our points, let’s start. I am hoping this reaches you guys, because it has helped people who told me they’re were a bit confused in the past as well as myself. Since, I also got this from another person prior. Now, Eren has more or less, guided his own birth into existence via the Attack Titan; he believes only “HE” himself can save The island. Now, how does this happen? How was he able to control his own birth? Let’s start with the Attack Titan….it has the ability to see glimpses into the past and share memories with future and past users. Basically, giving them the opportunity to influence them. Using this ability, Eren began with Eren Kruger who set his soon to be Father free. Next, the Butterfly Effect comes into play. Yall recently saw the Movie, “Arrivals”. Think of it like this. In that movie, we learned there was no beginning or end. At the start of that Movie, we see the Female MC depressed after she has lost a daughter. We soon realize that it is her future daughter with the Man she meets at the alien landing site. So, all the way back when Eren first touched Historia (a Descendant of the King) he had no beginning or end…he just WAS, much like the female MC from Arrivals. With that said….There was no guarantee that Eren would be born at all. So, he made sure no other option was possible using the Attack Titans abilities to change the possibilities of him not being born… Eren guided those possibilities in his favor. lastly, The Paths. Think of it like a hivemind. all Eldians are connected. The Paths can help see past memories, but again...The Attack Titan gives the user the ability to just exist. There is not a beginning nor an end for those users. they can live their lives however they like. Start at the end? From the middle? doesn't matter. Hope that helps a bit.

Xy Ocsalef

I think Eren is a psycho. I don't think a normal kid would plan to kill kidnappers, and yet we rooted for him for three seasons. Eren is the Japanese Joker. His tagline is "Kill them all"

Ghada

Also if you are curious when he got the memories of the future he saw all the future when he kissed Historia's hand at the end of season 3 at that moment his face changed and was shocked and strange for a moment... also after that you will notice the change in his personality and we used to hear Eren's inner thoughts from the beginning of Season 1 until he kissed Historia's hand, after which we stopped hearing them because he saw the future and we became from the point-view of the other characters wondering what Eren thinking and what his plans

Zimm

Episodes #1 & #2 are must rewatches after you all finish this masterpiece.

Rena Unnie

Eren casually sharing with his big bro that he's a bit of psycho and there's no brainwashing lmao.

Rob

LOL Uno Reverse with a Draw Four, just to rub the salt into the wound.

Selena G

I know many have already said it but AOT is truly better the more times you watch it. That’s when you really can enjoy the small details and the less viewed but iconic characters (Moblit 🤭) I love this show so much 😫🤩

Skellyp

You guys are right on. Some fun things to note, Grisha can only see Zeke and Eren because the memory is being sent to him from Eren in real time. So as Eren is experiencing it, Grisha is seeing it too. So when he first sees Zeke, it’s actually him recalling it from Eren’s memories when Eren was standing behind him looking at Zeke. That’s when Eren appears to notice it happening too. And another fun fact, the speech Eren gives Grisha to gas him up, is almost the same exact speech that Kruger gives Grisha when he tries to decline receiving the Attack Titan on the wall towards the end of season 3.

Skellyp

You say he saw all his future, key word is all, it didn’t say he saw all his future. That’s an important detail to get right.

Artem Dmytrenko

We are slowly coming to the end

Sonagi (소나기 )

I feel you all saw watch a compilation video of all the hints given from season one that this was planned by eren it will blow your mind guys!!!

Alexiani Gollarza

I didn't realize the inner thought thing. Nice! And yes, I think the next episode explains the Historia kissing hand thing

TexasSnyper

Now that y'all have learned about the memory thing, remember back to when Grisha and Kruger were on the wall before passing the Attack Titan on to Grisha. Kruger said that Grisha had to move forward because he had to "save Armin and Mikasa" but when asked Kruger said that he had no idea who those people were. Those names came to him as memories from Eren Yeager reaching back to Kruger because he held the Attack Titan. Also, if yall are interested in watching a quick clip that was IMO done WAAAAY better in dub, have a look at this link off camera. It's a quick 2 minutes when Eren talked to his dad but the moment is so much more powerful in dub. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iKuCfQ-Alho

Kel

MOBLIT!!! Agreed, I appreciated him so much more on rewatch!

Nate

The Attack Titan's power is also how Kruger knew about Mikasa and Armin!

Steven Warner

We all subtly head bangin w you DD 🤘

Miki

zeke never had eren; eren was being sarcastic as hell in the second memory lol

Jonathan Lopez

Rewatching this episode brought tears to my eyes at the end! Fucking amazing! This is why I always recommend AoT to anybody who’s looking for a new show to watch. The story is to AoT is just phenomenal! 💯 💪

Jonathan Lopez

Also I’m waiting for you guys to react to the two OVA episodes of how Levi joined the scouts! 💪

Luís

Wow, Mason Quinn actually got it at first watch, that's impressive, most people need to rewatch this episode to clearly understand the whole "Memories of the Future" thing

Luís

If you guys are curious how long ago did the foreshadowing for this started, watch the first scene right after the intro of the first episode.

Flubbedsquid

For what Mason said about rewatches, this show has the greatest rewatch I've ever seen in my life. SO SO much clicks into place, SO many things you don't notice the first time, or even the second or third time, hints they've been dropping since episode 1 for stuff that doesn't happen til years later. I absolutely encourage you guys to rewatch the show after you finish it. Most people do anyway eventually because it's so good. The guy who wrote this is a genius.

T.B.

You guys are awesome!

Rafael Ramirez

They watched them after the first season. You can find them on the playlist if you go back far enough.

romaiiiii

These end of episode discussions and theory crafts are my favorite! A+

Patience

Yes Eren is controlling the past with memories of the Future

kulukuy00

Just a reminder that Eren is only 15 years old in season 1 and 19 years old in season 4. Most of our crew are basically teens and a few kids.

TheMilkMan

That reveal was incredible, first time watching this episode, my jaw was dropped the whole time. You are correct, Eren cannot change the past but he can influence it as past Attack Titans can see future inheritor's memories, Eren only shows certain memories to Grisha to drive him forward. You know that meme of the guy holding a gun to a guy who's holding a gun to another guy? that's basically this episode, Eren has been the one behind everything all along.

Thiago Gaspar

Didn't you notice the scene where Eren's father shows him the key in episode 1, he was showing the key to Eren from the future that was in front of him... he could see him through the attack titan's future memories.

Thiago Gaspar

Remember that scene when Eren's father is talking to the guy who freed him? At the time, he had the Attack Titan and he said something about having to save Mikasa and Armin... that was the Attack Titan connecting the memories of Eren's father's friend with Eren's; so the script has already shown this since the past seasons but you couldn't have noticed :)

Jonathan Lopez

Oh shit really?! Can’t believe I missed those! Good looking out bro 💪 💯

Chai Tea

Mason Quinn you are ON IT!! 🥳 So glad you guys are following along so well on your first watch through! You’d be amazed how many reactors are completely lost throughout this show lol. Looking forward to next week 🔥

joe

yes eren manipulated his father by only showing selective memories to guide their actions. He did the same thing with himself when he kissed historia's hand he saw some things

Nikhil Palekar

This is just a masterpiece. Sorry for you guys you couldn’t see it as a trilogy for a viewing experience . If you did then I am really happy for you.

B23

this episode shook me to my core, the voice acting by Grisha's VA is astounding! then there's the next episode that wheeeew

skitalks

Fun fact: in the 1st chapter of the manga, you can see Grisha looking at Eren.

Clorox bleach G

Can’t wait for next episode. It’s my fav episode of the entire show

Niler Wuthichaikul

For The Attack Titan's ability to see the future, if you remember, Eren Kruger talks to Grisha about saving Mikasa and Armin. Then he said, whose memory is this? That's the hint.

Bunnings Snags

I Believe he did a similar thing with Kruger. In fact, it makes me wonder if Ymir created the attack titan so Eren can rewrite history itself from whatever would have happened if Eren was never born

Tarik

Eren was able to interact with and influence his father into slaughtering The Reiss is because of two reasons: The Attack Titan’s power that allowing its user to take a look at their future inheritors’ vision and memories. Zeke took Eren traveling into the past. As you may have known, The Attack Titan’s special power is to see the future through their inheritors’ visions and memories. However, this can only happen as long as their future inheritors allow them. They can’t just randomly see the “future”, not that simple, there is a mechanism. In this case, Eren allowed Grisha to take a look at some memories and visions. The intention is to trigger Grisha into doing what Eren wants, none other than to reach his greatest goal, Freedom of Paradis. The infamous paradox moment was all Zeke’s fault for taking Eren traveling the past because that makes Eren get the memories of the event, and by that, he became able to send those memories to the former shifter -which is Grisha-. The interaction could happen because Eren sent the memories of him witnessing Grisha begging The Founding to fight. Meanwhile, Grisha at that time was kneeling unable to kill The Reiss suddenly snapped and saw the whole situation in a different POV through Eren’s vision. So basically at that very moment, Grisha gets Eren’s memories of the “Time Travel” event, sees through Eren’s eyes, hears Eren’s voice -’cause Eren was talking to Grisha-, and so the interaction could happen. All because Eren allows Grisha to see all of those. This is also what makes Eren so shocked when he kissed Historia’s hand. He saw himself literally mercilessly puppet-mastering his father. Eren carefully shares his memories. Eren didn’t even share the memory of Carla’s death with Grisha. He only shares memories that have benefits for his goal. Freedom of Paradis. You will notice when Grisha said that he had a vision about what is coming waay ahead, that’s where Grisha explicitly admitted that he saw unity and a path to Eldians Freedom, and that’s enough to make Grisha decide to stick with Eren’s plan; “take The Founding, kill The Reiss but not the father” since it was the only way -this also because Eren share his memories about Rodd Reiss having a major impact to the plan.

Gu

there's actually no paradox of who started it, because young Eren would have done the same thing ,hence it doesn't matter if it was his future self pushing his dad

Stevenstuffguy

Love listening to your discussions at the end. Your thoughts and theories are very entertaining to hear.

Val

If only the anime kept the original intro tho. It's even more impactful 🥲

Aaron Ebel

Man this episode is such a banger. When you guys finish the show, I think you will regard Attack on Titan as one of if not THE best pieces of fictional storytelling EVER. It is truly genius. Hope you guys rewatch the show in your spare time to pick up all the little clues and hints that are dropped early on.

Gu

Eren didn't actually change the past this Ep, because this has already happened but now we are seeing it happen in real time from Audience Pov

Corey Harris

If you remember “The Owl” on ep 58 when he said to “take care of Mikasa and Armin”. Those were Eren’s memories. P.S pay attention to the title of the next episode, then go look at what the 1x1 episode is called.

Rex Tan

Yes. The correct term is "influenced" rather than "changed"

Sigmor

Yes Mason! Rewatching AOT is definitely amazing since indeed so much of it has been foreshadowed and rewatching it you pick up on so many details that just go over your head on initial watch. Its honestly amazing. Specifically for this episode; remember at the start of this season when Grisha is on the wall as he inherits the attack titan, he remembers the names of armin, eren and mikasa. Even though they don't even exist yet. Indeed an early example of the attack titans ability to see the future.

paeka

Just for some understanding of how Grisha can see Zeke at the table and so on. Grisha is seeing two things at once, whatever he normally sees through his own eyes, and what Eren is seeing at that moment. Eren was always standing in a position that allows Grisha to see Zeke. When Grisha took out his key and said 'one day ill show you what's in the basement', if you rewatch he was basically seeing himself through Erens eyes, like look into a mirror. That's why he's freaked out abit

Nere Rodriguez

This episode is sooo important when you rewatch the show. Guys please rewatch the whole show on your own and think about this episode. Your mind will be blown away. Isayama-Sensei created this masterpiece and it totally deserves to be watched multiple times.

Nere Rodriguez

Yessss, also, if you look closely when Grisha is talking with Kruger, there is a quick "camera angle" where you're supposed to see Kruger's side profile, but it's actually Eren's talking with Grisha. It's just *chef kiss*

e

let’s not lie im not saying its bad it’s just not my cup of tea and its def not the best opening song

Skellyp

It’s subjective. So it’s not number one in your eyes.

KamiGema

Subjectivity and Objectivity. Song sucks: Subjective Water is a liquid: Objective

e

i don’t like the op and its not my cup of tea can yall get over it already?🧍‍♂️

Diplex

You couldn't be more spot on Quinn, loving this

Stef

"Well now we have full context" WELLLLLLL just give it a minute

Yayita

exactly, changing the past would kind of imply a consequence in the future after that moment. If anything, this moment fulfilled the past, allowing the events of the show to carry out. It’s like a time paradox.

Aggiiee

Eren didn't change the past, he manipulated his father through the future memorie. It was always bound to happen

Andrea Hernandez

Its insane what Hajime did with his story, the amount of things that was foreshadowing what was about to happen... I mean, the best storytelllinig of a vilan that I ever saw

Rainy Days

If you want the top "oh, they knew where this was going from the very beginning" hint of the show... Eren crying at the base of the tree when he wakes up from his 'dream' ...as well as when the Colossal Titan first appeared, there are only like 4 footprints behind Berts' Titan ( which shows how the Titan didn't walk up, but rather appeared right outside the gate. )
