Hey Diamond Dave! Were you gentlemen going to react to the unofficial 11th episode? “We Stand Alone. Together”? It’s actually the documentary from where they pulled the snippets of interviews and used in the beginning of the episodes. It’s kind of the bonus episode to Band of Brothers.. you’ll get to meet a few more of the men you just watched portrayed on screen and it really put a lot of the facts about the show into perspective.

Would you guys please consider adding Mad Men and or Outlander to your show watchlist. They are both amazing and if you don’t enjoy them you don’t have to finish them. Thanks for all your hard work.

Buck Compton led one hell of an incredible life. Played college baseball with Jackie Robinson, played in the Rose Bowl as a college football player as well, obviously his service with Easy, and then being the man who convicted Sirhan Sirhan? That dude could have had a movie made about him alone.

C Russ

I was aware of most of what you said, but I did not know that he played with Jackie Robinson! That’s an amazing life! He deserved it!

Jeff K

"No. But I served in a company of heroes." Still gets me every single time.

I have no idea if you all will find this moving, but I do, so I thought I'd share. Band of Brothers was nominated for 20 Emmy Awards and won seven, including Outstanding Miniseries and Outstanding Direction, and in the technicals won Outstanding Casting (IMO the most deserved award for the show). The first episode of Band of Brothers debuted on HBO on September 9, 2001, to 10 million viewers, but the remaining nine episodes played during one of the most difficult times in modern American history, with a much smaller audience. Still, HBO kept it running. Every man from Easy Company still living was invited to attend a viewing party for the Emmys at the St. Regis Hotel, while Dick Winters sat in the Emmy auditorium with Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg, and went to the stage with them when they won Outstanding Miniseries. During Spielberg's acceptance speech, when he acknowledged that they didn't just win tonight, but Easy Company won this in 1944, the room at the St. Regis was put on the big screen, and the entire auditorium stood and applauded for quite some time. It may just be a bunch of actors, writers, and directors, but I think a long standing ovation, not for the series, but for the men, is a deeply emotional moment. And then Dick Winters spoke. You've never heard a room so quiet. Video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jcdXrrjR90A

You definitely need to react to the 11th Episode -- it is the documentary of Easy Company. It is a crime to watch the series and not see the documentary. It is excellent and ties it all together. It is where all the interviews with the actual men came from plus several more of the guys. It is called We Stand Alone Together and is available on YouTube. Plus you need to watch the other two mini series that Hanks and Spielberg did: The Pacific and Masters of the Air. Masters of the Air just came out this past year and follows the air force pilots and ground crews fighting in Europe.

I’m not sure if y’all noticed but during the lottery to go home the only serial number in their was Shiftys.

Charity Konusser (the chonus)

Oh, and Oak - you didn't get the date wrong. The episode starts with the card "July, 1945" that also says "Zell am See, Austria," telling viewers that Easy is already in Austria when the episode begins. (Big mountains, beautiful lake.) Winters is at the lake and Lewis Nixon joins him, with the parcel of photographs. After Winters dives in and goes swimming, the next shot is of the men on a Jeep and Winters' voiceover says, "We entered Bavaria in early May," which takes us back in time two months. Then we follow the story forward until we rejoin Nixon and Winters at the lake when Nixon dives in and the story continues from there.

I liked that Shiftys name was the only one in the hat for the "lottery'. i've watched this series about once a year ever since the dvd's were released. And I still get emotional at certain parts. Especially the end of this. When Oak was talking about his uncle and grandpa. My moms dad and his 2 brothers went to the Navy together and were together till the Sullivans tragedy then they got split up they were in the Pacific. However, my grandpa's brother in law, everyone called him Buddy, Uncle Buddy was a medic in the European campaign of the war for the Army. I only have two memories of him. One time he came to our house I was a kid and he took me out back to show me how to shoot my .22. That was the only time I ever saw him speak or do anything. He lived with him mom ever since getting out of the Army, my great grandma. Every time we went over there he was always sitting out back, smoking his cigarette and just kinda starring off. He never talked. I would ask my mom what was wrong with him and she'd just remind me that he was in WW2, a medic and seen so much that he just couldn't get past it. i can't imagine everything he saw and experienced, and at his age. He joined in 1940 served till 1947. Not a lot is known about his time while in cause he never talked. i wish I knew more.

Justin Brown

This is top tier. Epic tale of heroism and fighting evil

hex1c

I would say this ride with you is one of the if not THE most emotional ride ever on your channel. Well done guys. And I love Oak's stories about his grandpa.

This series was so powerful and so well done. It helped show a different perspective of war veterans with both the content of the episodes and touching interviews with the Easy Company veterans. To those who served, thank you for your service. ❤️

Same as Mason, I have seen Band of brothers 9 or 10 times now, my favorite show and can’t avoid the tears with episode 9 and 10. Thanks for watching it. If you want to add more war movies to your list, consider Dunkirk, one of my favorite Nolan movies, and I think people don’t appreciate it as it should be, such an underrated movie and amazing, great cast and story, please consider it for the future. Cheers guys and happy Saturday.

It really is a series like no other... Rewatching it with you all was probably my 4th time seeing it all the way through. Each time, I recognize a few more of the men from the beginning. (Like, for some reason, the first time around I swear I had no idea who Webster was when he got his focus episode about returning after his injuries.) What really struck me this time around was Spiers's growth throughout. How he starts out so distant from his men, they were so intimidated by him... To seeing him holding the hand of the one who got shot while he was on the operating table, choosing to stick around specifically because he'd gotten so attached to this company and wanted to be there to continue to lead them... I expected to get emotional near the end. That baseball scene where Winters lays out a mini epilogue for everyone always gets me. But I found myself tearing up a bit way earlier this time around. Thank you for the great reactions and thoughtful commentary! I couldn't believe so many of you hadn't ever seen this one when we first started.

GodUsopp

for my money the best show ever made

GodUsopp

Btw if you were ever wondering if the stories about spiers were true, the writers where scared to put it in the show because they didn't want to get sued so Winters called up spiers and asked him if they could and he oked it , im pretty sure he even signed some stuff

I'm sure you guys have heard of "The Pacific" and "Masters of the Air". Both are by the same executive producers as Band of Brothers. Once every one to two years I re-watch all 3 series in a row. The other two are a must watch as well if you ask me. Masters of the Air is pretty new but nonetheless amazingly done. It was great to watch this again with you guys <3

Kirstine Aaen

TWO episodes at once?? Lucky lucky me. I bet you finished watching ep. 9, looked at each other and went "yeeaaah, let's finish this!"

Kirstine Aaen

First time I watched this series, I was surprised - sort of impressed - that Easy Co. experienced so many "iconic" things from the war. They fought in the Battle of the Bulge, AND they liberated a concentration camp, AND they made it all the way to Hitler's Eagle's Nest?? Like, wow. You'd think it was written by Hollywood, a sort of "Greatest Hits from WWII", but no, they were really there in these places.

You guys should check out the documentary ‘We Stand Alone Together: The Men of Easy Company’

RogueOstriches7

So I know everyone has told you to watch We Stand Alone Together which is all the interviews with the (at the time alive) real men of Easy. But I would love to see you guys watch Ron Livingston's video documentary about the boot camp and training behind the scenes that went into making them the soldiers they portray in this series. It's funny but worth a watch to understand what these actor's were willing to go through to become these men of Easy. There's also an interviews/reunion done at the D Day museum several years back with the actors talking about some behind the scenes things and even some stories of the actors talking to the real men they played. It's worth a watch if not on here, on your own time.

Bartimaeus

Just also wanted to add some trivia about the theme song. It's called Requiem for a Soldier and actually has lyrics. It was composed for the show by Michael Kamen and lyrics written by Frank Musker. Here's a performance by Katherine Jenkins: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CfVELFsb96Q

Can y’all react to SGT. STUBBY animated movie? It’s about the most decorated dog of WW1. Right up your alley

John Deardurff

Also a DVD Box set owner (Metal Box edition) and have watched the series once a year for the past 20+ years. I always pick up something new. For this episode, I never noticed that when they drew Shifty's name, it didn't have any other slips in the helmet.

Rhea H Pelotto

Sincerely, thank you guys for sharing your FIRST watch experience with us…now you know why Quinn has the complete box set lol. I'm not sure how anyone could only watch this spectacular series ONCE. Just remember next time “For Easy Company, it was DDay plus 4-3-4” Really hoping to see y'all check out the “We stand alone together” documentary…. or maybe just a “follow up” to all the great info and stories from the excellent links people are recommending I'll add one to the mix. This is VERY current literally just a few months ago for the 80th anniversary of DDay. It's George Luzs son and Bill Guarneres. Lots of amazing stories AND photos of the men over the years at reunions and stuff https://youtu.be/5XbGIQR5YQI?si=Zd2GnIq_vME4ZW4w

I was not a fan of Masters of the Air. I thought the quality was a huge step down from BoB and even The Pacific. The writing wasn't there and the characters were not distinctive at all. I'd been looking forward to that series for years, because I love airplanes and that aspect of the military. I had to force myself through the last 4 episodes.
