Fun fact: the “prisoner” that’s screaming the next morning after the patrol is actually Tom Hanks. They used his voice lines from Cast Away from when he was yelling at a passing ship if I recall correctly

This series had a purpose. we thought weapons of mass destruction. Stop fantasizing about war

Dude, no sweat! All 4 of you gentlemen have been extremely respectful and reverent when discussing & reacting to this show. Maybe the best I’ve ever seen!

C Russ

Yeah, that’s awesome man not a lot of people actually know that little tidbit. It’s one of my favorite little Easter eggs in this show. Do you know who also makes a cameo I believe in the next episode that a lot of people usually miss !

Have you guys thought about reacting to the next installment miniseries produced by Hanks and Spielberg, The Pacific? As much as I adore BoB, I found that I really loved The Pacific more. I felt the story was more well-rounded and gave a better picture of the horrors of war. I could be biased since my Grandfather served in the Pacific and was in many of the battles shown in the series, but was just hoping you guys would check that out after. Hanks and Spielberg also recently did Masters of the Sky, which was also excellent.

You’re the first person I’ve heard say they like the Pacific more. I’m not saying you’re wrong. It’s obviously your opinion. I’m just a little stunned lol. I always think that reactors kind of make a mistake by reacting to Band of Brothers first, because of how good it is. The Pacific can feel very underwhelming if you watch it just after finishing Band of Brothers. I didn’t like the Pacific near as much, but I think part of that was because I started watching it literally right after finishing Band of Brothers.

Chelsea

You are not the first person to say that to me. I do think most people like BoB more, and I think it may be because most people know alot about the European theater of war so it's easier to connect and understand with those soldiers and that war, but the Pacific theater of war was a very unknown and not well taught war so the show really made you pay attention to what waa happening which can emotionally distance you from thr marines. Additionally, we are following various marines and not just one squad of men. However, since I've studied and learned alot of the Pacific theater from my grandfather and originally watched this miniseries with him, it was easier for me to connect to the marines. Especially Sledge and Snafu since my grandfather said his best friend in the war was alot like Snafu and he was very much like Sledge. But overall, I think the Pacific does a better job of not glorifying war and really showing the horrors of it, while I feel like BoB kind of glorified the war and made the audience feel like these men had no flaws. I appreciated seeing the flaws and the constant battle of humanity in the pacific, because to me, that is what war is. That is what war does. My grandfather said his experiences broke him down, created and marine and then when the war was over he had to find a way to break down the marine and become a human again, which he struggled with his whole life. I guess it's a very long-winded way of me saying I liked the realism of the pacific in terms of how human morality was portrayed rather than how it was portrayed in BoB. Also the pacific is the best program I've seen that accurately shows the vast differences between the European and Pacific theaters of war when it comes to type of enemy being fought, weather/climate, types of fighting, army vs. Usmc characteristics, etc.

Yeah, I’m definitely going to watch it again with a less biased lens. I think both are probably excellent for very different reasons. The only similarity is that they are war stories from WW2. Different enemies, different parts of the world, different soldiers, etc.. I’m excited to watch it again with the fellas either way once they do decide to react to it eventually.
