One of my favorites! A true testament to how important the medics are on the battlefield. Who would’ve thought in a series about World War II with only 10 episodes that they would find a way to make chocolate a profound part of the show. Amazing writing. Another reason why this show is not just a show but an experience.

This is such an incredible episode, but one I always have a hard time going back and re-watching. It’s so intense. Phenomenal, but makes my heart rate spike every time.

My grandfather spent 4 months fighting in the rain in Northern Africa (WW2 British forces). He play acted a white rage with any droplets of rain. He wrote his memoirs before he died. He got sick and was taken to stay dry for two nights. While he was gone his 3 gun mates, his replacement, and two friends who took over were killed. The guilt and sadness came back with the weather. One night earlier and he could have taken someone’s place. So weird. Years of war and weather was his trauma.

What is that noise in the background it sounds like someone eating peanuts lol

The nurse is based on Renee Lemaire, who became known as the Angel of Bastogne. The other nurse, named Anna here, seems like she's probably based on Augusta Chiwy, a Belgian/Congolese nurse who has since been credited as the other (forgotten) Angel of Bastogne. I love the symbolism of Eugene using her scarf at the end, because even in death, she was still helping. Also, fun fact about Buck Compton: he played baseball at UCLA, where he was a teammate of Jackie Robinson. He's in the UCLA Baseball Hall of Fame and also played football for UCLA, and played in the Rose Bowl.

One of the most interesting things about this episode for mewas the NEARLY complete lack of any german soldiers. The whole seen where Babe couldn't get to his friend.... we never saw the enemy.

I’m glad Diamond Dave picked up on the fact that there was no music until the very end. I’ve always thought that was such a nice touch to this particular episode. Also “Smokey” Gordon would end up surviving and actually even walk again. He would suffer from chronic back pain for the rest of his life. Had a long life though. Lived until 1997. And that was actually Sergeant Lipton and not winter getting the men ready going foxhole to foxhole.

My grandfather was serving in Patton's 3rd Army on it's drive to "rescue" the 101st. He was wounded by a tree burst and had extensive shrapnel and splinter wounds on his face and chest. He spent several months in the hospital but was able to rejoin his unit during the final fighting into Germany

My personal favorite episode out of the whole series. Other eps might be higher rated but to me, this episode is just amazing. Shane Taylor (a Brit) who played Doc Roe was just excellent, playing a Cajun from Louisiana, adapted their accent as well. The arc of Eugene this whole episode as DD mentioned tugs at the heart. Yeah, to answer Oak's question, I'd say the last 5 episodes made me feel exhausted during my first watch. But having watched a lot of other reactors try BOB, it's like going through those emotions again, like this one.

Ahhh. Gotcha. You would need to have your copy on Netflix or HBO and sync with the timer or the available showing of the show. You may need another device to do this. 🤙

This show does a good job of building that sense of mental and physical exhaustion that you start feeling alongside the men. As the next episode is titled there's a point that it can't be handled anymore.

I saw someone in the comments mention that Smokey eventually regained the ability to walk. He also went back to the Ardennes many years later and found his foxhole. In the scene you see he was heating up coffee in his canteen, it was still there when he went back to his foxhole many years later.

I would love for you guys to watch The Pacific. I find it an even more realistic view on the way war affected our soldiers

Speaking of documentaries -- one of the best parts of this series is the documentary about Easy Company called "We Stand Alone Together". They used the interviews with the men from that documentary. It is unofficial episode 11. It is a must see and kind of ties it all together.
