Yes it was never mentioned before that they're having diplomatic relationships with any country, since they were surrounded by titans and their memories been wiped out,but after they built the port, with the help of the Marleyan captives, they were able to connect with the world and the first nation to connect with them was the Hizuru (through Zeke). It's been mentioned before that Mikasa's mom is of oriental race, but now we got to see from which specific nation. We've seen this lady in episode 4 and 5, she was the one who Udo spilled wine on her kimono and she covered for him.

I believe it just means that hizaru they are neutral to everyone and likes anyone who can help them make money, hence they wanted their resources so they "pretended" to be nice in hopes of getting more money

Just need to add something Mikasa's arm band was shown in the Manga from the earlier chapters until this reveal, Manga Mikasa always covered her wrist. I don't know why in the anime they did not include that little detail. And you're right it came out of nowhere, it's a studio mistake

I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate and love your guy’s AOT reactions! I would like to recommend another show called Gravity Falls! It’s full of mystery and is is available on Disney+. It’s a pretty short show with 2 season (40 episodes) but is full of adult humour (for a kids show) and has a really good story, comedy and really high rated IMDB episodes as well! The mystery’s and theory’s are still on going in the fandom today even though the show ended 7 years ago, and is beloved by many fans. :)

I'd seriously be fine with you guys switching to dub. I've loved sub myself over dub for nearly every anime(though quality for english dub has gone up a lot the past two decades), but you gotta do you and if you enjoy it more in English then go do it.

Another quality reaction guys. For me, even though I like some animes in dub, I'm generally a subs guy. What I do not recommend however is constantly switching between dubs and subs (its fine not to get all the details at first watch, and I understand it may be difficult to watch the scenes and read the subtitles at the same time, but trust me you'll get the hang of it as soon as you get a couple of anime series under your belt. It's probably normal.)

I think it would benefit you guys from watching an episode like that on dub. Because although i understand your opinions about this episode, it actually was really collected episode, with good descriptions for anything they actually tried to explain in detail. But obviously if you are not used to the subtitles it's easy to get lost.

If BM is ok with the dub voices and it will be easier for them to watch it, then thats what they should be allowed to do without being ragged on by snobby sub elitists. and on top of that people have the audacity to call them out for not catching details in the show like wat do ppl expect lol

I know everyone is different and I definitely don't want to speak for you guys, but after watching countless reactions over the years, switching from sub to dub does NOT help the reactor(s) remember more information. The reactors say anime felt easier to follow in dub, but any viewer will notice that these reactors still misunderstood and forgot just as much information as sub reactors. Some episodes may require a rewatch for some people to fully catch everything and that's okay. Again, this definitely might not be the case for you guys. Maybe you switch to dub and you really do remember and understand everything much better. Personally, I would prefer you guys just go ahead and finish watching in sub but feel free to do whatever you guys think is best. Also, all the "oh by the way's" have been alluded to throughout the series as the show tried to point out. The breadcrumbs were definitely there. Knowing the whole picture wasn't relevant at the time so you only saw a portion. Not to mention that most viewers would have forgotten the information anyway. The story is now at a lull and the information is now relevant so it's great placement. When I was a first time watcher, this was one of two episodes that helped me accurately predict how the show would end.

Mason: I will agree that this episode is definitely the weakest in season 4 However the “oh by the ways” you mention aren’t random 1. Mikasa tattoo: we have known since the beginning that she is an oriental and an Ackerman, given that they are on the island it’s not surprising that the orientals are living somewhere else and now this episode we get our reveal. Also in episode 6 season 1 mikasa talks to her mother about passing down the symbol to her children. 2. The kiyomi lady was introduced in episode 4 and 5 when udo spilled wine on her and she left the theatre early knowing what eren had planned against Willy. 3. This episode as well as the previous needed to fill in the past 4 years, we know from magath and zekes conversation in episode 2 of season 4 that 32 ships were sent to the island and none came back. Zeke knew that his followers were on those ships. Paradis needs to modernize its island in order to keep up with the rest of the world and to avoid the rumbling as they don’t want to unleash millions of titans to wipe out the world. So kiyomi and paradis working together allows them to modernise much quicker. 4. I don’t see your problem in them building railroads as they are clearly trying to modernise their island. They also needed to build a port so that new people from different countries can visit. Yes this episode jumps around a lot and it’s the last one to do so, don’t worry everything will be back on regular timeline from now and flashbacks will be very obvious as to what’s going on. These two episodes were just a little tricker to keep up with

Also also, the only by the way was the mikasas tattoo and royal status. Her origins otherwise were heavily implied in the first season. We were told before that in the past eldian royal family had certain ties and alliances with other nations and families. The tattoo covered wrist was a constant in the books/manga, and unfortunately wasn’t featured in the earlier seasons. :] Hope that helps

Tone is just so much easier to differentiate in dub, especially with it being dialogue heavy.

This is one of the episodes that you rightfully may feel like it was too much of an info dump with too much “oh-by-the-ways”, but it has insane rewatch value. Mikasa’s tattoo is the only thing which is the anime’s fault, as the author, Isayama, did in fact draw her tattoo and the bandages. The animation studio tried to do it as an embroidery (S1 ep 6 when we meet her parents, her mom is sewing something and tells her to pass it on her child one day or something like this) instead of a tattoo as it would’ve been seen negatively by the audience both with Japan’s history and the fact that she would’ve been a child when she got tattooed. I adore the scene where they all blush because eren expresses how much he cares about them. As the audience it’s obvious to us how much the core crew cares about each other but as child soliders who have been in near life or death situations for years it’s probably pretty embarrassing to express gentle emotions like love and care.

It really isn't. Getting used to a lower quality of voice acting isn't a good thing. Japanese voice acting sucks, with an overexaggeration on screaming because apparently that's the only way they know to convey emotion. Not to mention the poorly cast actors, with them casting voice actors to fit the character archetype instead of the actual body type that the character has. Armin is a great example: he's a fully grown adult male past puberty, but he sounds like a little girl in Japan because apparently being smart and compassionate makes you sound like a female? Absolute insanity.

I'm also great if you guys decide to switch to dub. I think you'll have a much easier and better time overall. There's less confusion when you're dealing with a language that you're fluent in and actually can recognize tone and inflection. Throughout the last episode you guys thought that Armin was Yelena when he was narrating and I know that wouldn't have happened in English when he actually sounds like a man instead of a woman. It also helps recognize who's talking when the person is off screen because the subtitles don't always list the speaker. In English, you can actually recognize who's talking because you know their voice. Either way, the choice is ya'lls but I'm sure that if you check out another anime in English from the start, you'd have a much better time. It's like watching Avatar and Legend of Korra, even though they aren't anime they're close enough.

I prefer original voices but if you want to do it in dub just do it, people are going to hate for everything, you offer a space of entertainment by reacting to something and if you don't catch things you can't enjoy to it's full, the anime community it's toxic, don't let them overcome your own decisions.

Totally valid critiques of this episode in particular and no show is perfect. Love that you keep it 100. This show can be a lot to remember and take in at times and that's why I prefer dub personally. But things will make more sense in the future and just keep the theories going and taking notes as well! :)

Hey guys👹 Thanks for the reaction! Valid criticism of the episode! I also think this is a weaker episode from season 4. On the other hand, I like what Mason Quinn said about showing very well that the confusion is not only for the viewer but for the characters as well! Very often show will just tell you directly that someone is confused. In here, they show it. I will disagree thought about your opinion about building railroads. They had 4 years to develop and make connections with other nations. They actually showed you the process of developing and modernizing the island. They had to do it because they knew the world will attack them sooner or later. That is what the flashback is showing. This episode jumps back and forth between 2 timelimes so it can be tricky. You will be perfectly fine moving forward, they will show exactly what they mean and you will understand everything, no worries.👺 As always with AoT, trust the process🖤

Wow, you guys understood this episode actually really well. Definitely compared to most AoT reactors. My vote is to keep with subs since you guys are so close to the end. Doesn’t matter much for us Patreon viewers since we can watch along our preferred way, but I think it would throw off your YouTube viewers a lot (I’d make the same argument for dub if you’d been doing dub this whole time). This episode is kinda the pinnacle of confusion in S4, so it does get back to normal soon-ish, don’t worry.

Haven't watched the reaction yet but from the comments I'm assuming you're debating on wether or not you should switch to dub and I'd have no problem with that but I watched it in sub for the first time with English subtitles which was double confusing since English isn't my first language, but if I was able to understand everything, so will you. It's supposed to be a little confusing at this point of the story, it'll all be easier. I think that the comments will help a lot with the confusion, bc of course there are some things you'll miss on your first watch. I'm fine with either, although I really really love the Japanese voice acting.

I love though how they showed how the island is developed, so I disagree with Mainson Quinn on that one. Confusion will pass as always. You will understand everything well going forward. Other than the train tracks scenes, this is also my least favorite episode of probably the whole show. I still love it, which says a lot for the show, but it’s the one I’m most likely to skip on rewatch. So I get it. We still love you!

Please watch/listen to the outros once in a while too, they are sooo great! The current outro and the one after this one are my favorites and i'd hate for you to miss them. Id recommend watching them at least once with translated lyrics as well since they have a lot of meaning in my opinion. ok, so the mikasa having the tattoo, yes you are right in the fact that you didn't see it, but thats because that scene was altered in the anime. in the manga, you get the scene of Mikasa's mom giving her that tattoo. In the anime, that scene is altered to show her mom giving her a knitting pattern. Now as for why the scene is changed, theres three reasons as to why. reason 1: Attack on Titan back in 2014 was still relatively new. to put in perspective, where they were in the manga was before season 3 even started. i believe ymir just got revealed as a titan by the time season 1 concluded. Reason 2: Witt studio did not believe that the anime will continue since the manga was still doing monthly releases. They did not believe that they would be the ones who would continue to do the anime and thats if it did continue; and to an extent, they were correct. This is a different studio dealing with the mess. Reason 3: Tattos are still a big no no when it comes to Japan. This was televised and the use of a tattoo would have sparked a big outrage in Japan. This being because of Yakuza and organized crime syndicates using tattoos to identify themselves.

This reaction was incredible as always. It’s ok Mason, the “jumbled” pieces are just part of the giant rubix cube that is AoT, everything will be explained and fleshed out through the season. Think of the first few episodes of the season as information overload that will slowly and methodically be peeled apart to better explain that specific leaf/page. There are still things that have yet to be explained, that will be explained throughout the season. I can promise you guys🤘🏻this is one of those shows that even though I’ve watched it x amount of times, will find or pick up a new piece of info. It’s what makes this show one of my most cherished pieces of media to date 🫶🏻

He just takes small comment they made, and makes it sound as if they are not sure how to watch the show going further. Which is such a lame and desperate reaction. Can't imagine what's so confusing about it. It's pretty clear if you're paying attention. I had no trouble parsing what was going on, nor did anyone else that I watched it with. There's no heady concepts or anything that's hard to wrap your head around, unlike a certain couple of episodes later on in the series. I fully expect people to be confused by those, but this one is pretty obviously showing different time jumps. If you were confused by it, then it sounds like you're watching subs when you need to be watching dubs. Imagine that: watching a piece of media in a language you don't know leads to confusion because you're too busy reading the words when you should be watching. Btw, don't complain about me bringing up watching in dub when I'm far from the first and far from the only person to do so, including the members of the crew. Implying that I'm out here complaining just to complain is pathetic when you know good and well that if they were watching in dub every single one of these comment threads would be full of elitists crying about how they need to switch to sub. If you don't like it, nobody's forcing you to read my comments. You can feel free to block me so you don't have to hear from me and move on with your life

Not sure how sub and dub got mentioned again, my vote is to keep watching in sub because we've made it this far. We're so close to the end. The voice acting really gives it's emotional impact, especially the last movies. Something to add if it was missed is Historia suddenly being pregnant means she wouldn't have to turn into a titan according to Zeke's plans (Discussed during the table scene with the men drinking) Also, no need to overthink about Mikasa's mark since most of what's discussed of it was this episode

You do realize they produce tons of animes and thus naturally have tons of talented voice actors right? But I do understand it's your opinion and your preference. The fact that BM just came to a realization of what " The Rumbling " is episode 4x9 when it was clearly stated during 4x5 by Willy, and even Eren going. " Yeah, I'm the big bad guy. I might just destroy the world. " Yet the crew is shocked about the scale of the titans in the wall. Mistaking Yelena for Armin multiple times while they're both being shown on screen in different outfits. Not knowing names of many important characters etc. It shows that dub would be an easier to understand experience. Simple fact. Dog, they didn't even know who Doctor Yeager was. Didn't pick up on Kruger's name being used by Eren. All these fine little details the show drops that they're simply missing because they can't recognize Japanese voices as native English speakers. Shocker. I've watched anime my whole life, there's just some people who will have a much better experience in their native language. " But the original voice acting is so amazing! " For certain shows sure. By all means watch it in Sub. But for plot heavy shows, watch whatever is easier for you to understand and digest the story properly. Which would be Dub for the crew. Anyone stating otherwise simply is obsessive over Dub/Sub which has always been dumb to me.

Fun fact, the anime doesn’t really show any sign of Mikasa having a tattoo on her wrist in the previous episodes, but when I read the manga, it’s shown in the chapter on mikasa’s back story. The anime shows her mom teacher her an embroidery pattern, but in the manga, it was the brand or tattoo on her wrist, so I forgive the anime since the original work had it.

If BM want to switch they can, I couldn't care less. What is annoying is this debate lasting for the last 9 months almost under every single episode. At some point anyone can get fed up. I agree with you that they don't follow the plot very well, but it seems to me that language adjustments wouldn't help much. They forget a lot very quickly, and do not rewatch or try to discuss things that are not clear.

Thats totally true! And I don't know what gave you the impression that I think people on the other side are all calm and nice. In fact my first comment about language was under the video you are mentioning. That time I was talking to everybody, also asking to stop obsessing over subtitles becuse i was so suprised at the uproar. Everybody lost their shit. But for the last 4 weeks the issue is "they are confused only because of subs" complains. The truth is episodes they did in English confused them equally and they did not remember much from them as well. So I just think it's nonsense to equal their confusion only to language issue. I simply point out there are several reasons for it and there is no need to constantly debate the language. I was ignoring it for 3 seasons....but at some point it annoyed me.

I actually agree with you about the Marco guy, btw. His comments about Japanese VAs are completely out of line. I also agree that it really makes no sense to switch this late into the show. But, there is definitely an elitist viewpoint that many sub-holders hold and I think it's important to communicate to the BM guys that, going forward there is absolutely nothing wrong with watching anime dubbed and it can be beneficial for reaction content. The two characters they’re “”forgetting Dr Jaegar and Kruger were from the episode they watched in Dub. Everyone confused Armin and Yelena off and on especially in scenes where Yelena isn’t talking or is in the background like they just did, it wasn’t when she started talking yet. These weak a minor points you make show your obsessing over sub/dub. AoT is a way different, better show sub and you won’t find the same quality voice actors that make the show. Every dub va sounds like their holding in their poop

I don't think Eren actually was laughing back when Sasha died, because remember when he failed to transform in order to kill Dina Fritz in titan form (titan who killed Eren's mom) and Hannes died because of it. Eren fell down to his knees and laughed before he started crying. While most people express overwhelming negative emotion by crying some actually express it by a mixture of laughing and crying, it's actually a thing. You could be right though because it is KINDA funny, but I don't think anyone would laugh like that when their loved one had just died, and Eren saying on the train: "You guys are more important to me than anyone else", however people change. Love your reactions and theories as always, keep it up!

There are people under the comments arguing that these guys didn't understand the plot or forgot things or didn't understand, but it literally takes three-four watch-throughs of AOT to even pick up on subtle hints or even get some of your confusions answered. Like yall calm down. Plus they're watching like 5 other things on top of this so by the time they watch the next episode they probably forgot some stuff because on top of that they have lives unlike some of yall. This isn’t true, the end of the season/show is more action based with dialogue scenes sprinkled in around the place, the difficulty of the understanding was mostly these two episodes, going forward there are no major flashbacks that hop around a lot. They will not struggle from here on out as much as they did this episode
