Because Mason asked. It my understanding that Dragons that are not kept in a barn or cage (the dragon pit/ stable) dragons that are not confined grow much more quickly and larger than dragons kept in the dragon pit. So the dragons that are hatched or grow up free to fly around are much bigger.

There are (maybe) 6 riderless dragons on dragonstone. Three of them are wild dragons that have grown up untamed and have never had a rider, their names are the Cannibal, Sheepstealer and Grey Ghost, all of them medium to large (but still not as big as Vhagar). And 3 tamed but riderless dragons; The medium and quick Seasmoke (Laenor was their last rider), and the larger and older Vermithor (the Good King Jaehaerys was their last rider) and Silverwing (last rider Good Queen Alysanne). Very interested to see how this all plays out over the next few episodes! Great reaction as always, thanks guys!

The dragons grow depending on age and basically “freedom”. SPOILER FOR GOT: That’s why Drogon was bigger than the other two, because of that time he flew away solo when he threw a hissy-fit. Also why the dragons got smaller and smaller before Daenerys. Because they weren’t being flown as much and kept locked up in the dragon pits.
