So pumped that you guys dropped the last two episodes!! It was a great journey watching Shogun with you guys. The last episode where it shows John in the future holding the crucifix, to when he dropped it in the water really confused me. I had to do some research on that. I came across an interview with the creators of Shogun. This is just a quick quote from Jason Marks (answering what it meant when John threw the crucifix in the water): "That was the rejection of his future self. It was what confirmed, once and for all, that that future would never be possible: to say goodbye to her now, and not to bring her rosary home as some souvenir from a colonial exploit or something." So, the whole future viewpoint was John's vision of what he thought would be his life after Mariko's passing. This was my only complaint of the entire series, as I still find it oddly placed and confusing.

To me the "future" scene seemed like John was in delirium after the explosion which lead to him having this dream of his future. It was mentioned he has slept long after the attack, so I can totally see him dreaming of ominous things, especially after he saw Mariko die and held her dead body in his arms. How those experiences would give him that dream he once tried pursuing, and now after all he has been through, even his encounter with his former crew ...I think the vision turned into more of a nightmare. And in the end it lead to him rejecting that possibility. I hope this makes sense, I feel words get all so tangled when they try to leave my head X0
