The process of working on the location - Baths (Patreon)
Content
Hello!
As you know, very soon we will have a new update of our main game - Wanderer 0.4.5, in which we updated the Baths. New quests and a new character introduction is just a weeks away!
But in this post, we’d like to share our process drawing the previous background for Baths.
First, we asked ourselves: What would this place look like in a magical academy, the most renowned in Andir? Then we started looking for references.
This was our rough sketch:
The overarching shape and idea was great, so we got add more decorative elements. This is the next step WIP:
We changed the symbol of flame at the top of the rotunda. After much debate, the pyramids were chosen as the better decorum. Also, we added requisite items to baths - buckets and towels, what would you do without them?
The next step was to start painting, but before doing so, we changed the symbol, again:
Now, all that’s left was textures and detail work. This was the final artwork for Baths:
However, the location was very limited in use, so while we were changing the look of the whole Academy, we got to remaking Baths.
This was our 3D-model to get the perspective and proportions right:
After making a 3D model of the baths, we outlined the contours. Then, we readjusted the perspective and made the final linework with decorative elements in the background:
Then comes a lot of basic coloring and now, Baths lit by moonlight and magic look like this:
