The indian/native split is super tribal/nation specific in the US. So, like, always check before using one or the other. 'Indian' is the legal term and makes Europeans sound stupid, while 'Native American' has an Italian guy's name in it. And 'indigenous' has the negative connotations of primitive. So it gets complicated.
