The "SCREAM" franchise joins "SPIDER-MAN" and "THE MATRIX" in 2021/22's cascade of turn-of-the-millennium blockbusters being alternately meta, maudlin or grumpy about fans inability to move on from nostalgia for them. 25 years later I still can't force myself to care about this franchise, but at least this 5th installment didn't use a number as a letter in its title and the filmmaking is mostly on point. That has to count for something.
