Tom Hardy returns to (literally) talk himself through yet another "Salvage it in post and hope for the best" placeholder spin-off for the Sony Bootleg Marvel-Verse, this time additionally featuring Woody Harrelson cashing in some Gen-X meme chips on a "Natural Born Killers" riff as the titular Symbiote's all-the-way-bad nemesis in a disposable storyline that's all about jogging in place while this studio and Disney work out Spider-Man's visitation schedule. Marvel fans will have fun dissecting the future implications of Naomie Harris' offhandedly-unexplained super-villainess and a weirder-than-usual post-credits gag and more-than-crumbs hat-tips to the first film's earnest adoption by the LGBTQ community are appreciable; but it remains a lazy if not offensively so speed run vision of one of the genre's most one-note popular fixtures.
