Hey Mark! Fantastic vid, as always. Was wondering if you've ever had a chance to play Frictional's latest game 'Soma?' It's a game that, though the atmosphere is well executed, fails at many points from a gameplay perspective, yet manages to deliver a world and sci-fi story that in my opinion is one of the best and most interesting out there. Would love to hear your thoughts! Thanks for the great content!

If someone got intrigued by the video, yet cannot bring themselves to play a horror game, there's a wonderful video series by Shesellsheshells that originated on SA Forums. It's very informative in terms of game secrets and lore. Not much talk on game design, but a lot of Garfield jokes to relieve the tension. Hands down best Youtube playthrough I've experienced.

Weirdly enough I never played all the way through Dead Space 1. My experience with the franchise started with Dead Space 2. The feelings you mention in here, of balance between the two halves, was actually something I got from the second game. But in discussing the game with a friend who played the first one a lot he said that DS2 lost that balance for him. I can totally see why, but it's interesting that the second was better for me in a way because I started with it. But even being more forgiving of DS2's direction I really didn't like what they did with DS3. It lost the tension and just felt reused.

Man this is wonderful stuff again, Mark. I'll be really interested in seeing what you think about Alien: Isolation when/if you get to it <3

I really want to, because I want to talk about the AI. But as someone who dislikes games where an unkillable creature follows you (not for design reasons - just because it scares the crap out of me!) it sounds like an absolute nightmare of the game.

I started playing it and was really intrigued. And then I met a monster and nope'd right out of there. I am a terrific baby.
