Hello! Hope you're doing okay. Here's three things for you all to know

One!

Later today I'm releasing the above video, where I chat to former Naughty Dog designer Evan Hill about the creation of a Last of Us 2 level. It's pretty early in the game and doesn't have any major spoilers - though you may wish to experience the level yourself.

This was really fun. It's a very different type of video (though with the usual GMTK polish!), but I think it's super interesting. Hope you like it. As promised, this is an ad-free version for Patrons.

Two!

YouTube, the silly blighters that they are, are removing community captions in September. This is a feature where viewers can provide subtitles - which the creator can add to their videos with a single click. People have used this to provide GMTK episodes in dozens of different languages.

Please sign this petition. Hopefully it's not too late to tell YouTube that this is a silly move that unnecessarily limits accessibility and the global access to educational content.

Three!

GMTK just hit 900,000 subscribers! That's amazing. My goal for 2020 is just one more leap away...

Great work Mark, thanks for this. I hope this kind of commentary is something you can keep doing in the future. Also, for what it's worth, I saw the public version of the video and couldn't spot the ad at any point.

Oh I can't wait to watch this, thanks Mark!

I really loved this. Would love to see this kind of creator-interview discussion with some of the worlds you featured in Boss Keys (Hollow Knight especially). :)

Oh no, "Future Days", now I'm crying again! Would love to hear some thoughts on the small "open-world" chunk of this game VS Lost Legacy.

A minor piece of feedback, I didn’t play the videogame but I watched someone play through parts of this sequence. For the benefit of the audience, it would have been nice to know what the designers were trying to accomplish with this level. It would have framed your conversation that much better.

I wonder if you edit your videos yourself, Mark? The Cuts etc. are awesome, I felt the emotions the game wanted to deliver without even playing it. Your videos are priceless!

Hi Mark, Just got round to watching this and really enjoyed the video. It was great to have this kind of insight into how these sort of things are made, and your questions were very on point for diving in to the ideas and processes behind the design. Furthermore I really appreciate that you also mentioned the reported crunch that went in to making the game. I think it's important that the potential human cost is not obfuscated when you talk about how much work goes into this sort of game. Keep up the excellent work!
