Hello!

Wow, I can't quite believe it. Today marks the 5th anniversary of Game Maker's Toolkit.

On November 6th, 2014, I released my first (proper) video to YouTube: a video essay about adaptive soundtracks. If it did well, I remember thinking, I might be able to make a few more of these things.

It's now half a decade later and I've made about 124 of these things, ran three Game Jams, spoken all over the world, created several sub-series, interviewed various developers, and turned GMTK into my full time job. I guess it did well, then.

To celebrate the event, I'm going to be releasing the above video later today. It marks some of my achievements, noteworthy events, and some nice comments I've received from people in the industry.

I've also created a Teespring store, to finally sell some GMTK merch! People have been asking for this stuff for ages, so I thought I might as well give in! Here's what you can get:

GMTK 5th Anniversary

GMTK Logo

Boss Keys logo

The 5th anniversary one was made by a talented designer at Teespring, who worked with me to make this shirt. Hooray!

Patrons can use the code GMTKPATRON to get 10% off your order.

Later this week I hope to release a Patreon post about stats and numbers and learnings from the last five years, and plans for 2020. So keep an eye out for that!

Mark

Congrats! 5 years is a long time but it flies by when you're doing something you enjoy. :) Side note: may I kindly request your store include stickers? I would like to adorn my laptop with some GMTK and Boss Keys merch. :)

Yikes, has it really been 5 years? Keep up the cracking work, I'm consistently thrilled to see one of your videos land in my inbox.

Congrats Mark! Here's a small feedback though. Put the Epic Store coupon "GMTOOLKIT" on the description of every video from now on so it can be easy to find. I bough Outer Worlds last week and I couldn't remember in wich video it was. I know it's not a hard name to remember, but I still forgot.

This is the video that reminded me to finally pledge to you on Patreon. In honour of this, allow me to gently point out that "sneak peaks" should be "sneak peeks" in your $5 tier description. Love your work! :)

It's nice to see that your top videos by views follows the Zipf's Law and the Pareto Principle!
