Hello!

So the first episode of GMTK is, as usual, based on what I played over the Christmas break. Which happened to be a few stealth games. And that left me wondering: why did the stealth genre appear in 1998? This video explores that idea.

Thanks for your feedback on the draft script. I think I'll continue to do something like this going forward as getting fresh eyes on stuff is really helpful.

See you soon!

Mark

The Year Stealth Games Got Serious | Game Maker's Toolkit

Stealth games were few and far between for much of gaming’s history - until the year 1998 when three huge stealth games came out in the same year. In this video, I’ll explore the conventions that these games established, and ask why ’98 was the year stealth games got serious. Great video! As a follow up you could address stealth in non-stealth games. Also, I’m a 10 bucks supporter but did not see my name this time :/

Ok, great. Patreon did not put me in the new tier, despite meeting the requirements already. -.- I’m probably not the only one affected.

Hey Thomas - Hm, you're right! I automatically get these names from Patreon and it seems yours did not go through. I'm terribly sorry - I'll DM you about this now.

This makes me realize the Boss Keys episode on Metroid: Zero Mission doesn't feature the stealth section. I'd love to hear Mark's thoughts on it.

I love the shift in the intro/transition editing style ! and am happy to see the Mark Plays Thief content I've been personally wishing for :)

I completely missed the notifications. Was it removed for the lowest tier?

Seems like I’m not in the credits either
