This movie is a lot of people's favorite so I'm not surprised to hear you say that. I like the original movies better but the prequels are also great and don't get nearly enough love. They are brilliantly written in terms of plot and character progression. Qui-Gon Jin being the father that Anakin needed and dying unexpectedly, leaving Obi-Wan to train him and Palpatine controlling both sides of the war to gain power for himself and turn Anakin against the Jedi. You can follow these threads all the way to the end of Episode VI when Vader saves Luke by killing the Emperor, becoming the father that he never had and fulfilling his role as the "chosen one". There's so many little things I've wanted to point out while watching along but I didn't want to spoil anything so I've kept my mouth shut. For example the fact that "Princess" Leia is the daughter of "Queen" Amidala is a cool little clue that a lot of people don't pick up on but I didn't want to point that out before the movie confirmed it. Something in this movie you may not have picked up on is at the end when Obi-Wan picks up Anakins blue lightsaber, it's the same lightsaber Obi-Wan gives to Luke at the beginning of Episode IV. Luke ends up using his fathers own lightsaber to fight him in Episode V. The same actor actually did play Palpatine in both the original and prequel movies. Ian McDiarmid was only in his late 30's when he played Emperor Palpatine in 1983 for Return of the Jedi, of course with a lot of makeup to make him look old and disfigured. When he reprised his role as Senator Palpatine for Episodes I-III he was in his late 50's. It just worked out perfectly like that. Anthony Daniels also played C3P0 in all six movies, Kenny Baker (3 ft 8 in tall or 1.12 m) played R2-D2 in all six movies and Frank Oz voiced Yoda in all five movies he appeared in. Not only that but the same actor, Peter Mayhew, who played Chewbacca in IV, V and VI also played him in his short cameo in this movie, so there's a lot of amazing continuity between the two trilogies. There's definitely a case to be made for R2-D2 being the main hero of the franchise because of how many times he's saved the main characters from dying a horrible death. Ultimately, Anakin is the one who brought the force back into balance by killing Palpatine. Luke is the one who made that happen by bringing Anakin back to the good side. You could also consider Obi-Wan as the ultimate hero. Although he made many mistakes in his training of Anakin, he arguably went through more than any other character and never even considered turning evil. He lost his master to Darth Maul, he lost the entire Jedi Order, he was forced to destroy his apprentice, he had to spend 20 years of his life alone while watching over Luke and he even sacrificed himself to aid Luke on his journey. At the end of the day though, none of that happens if R2 doesn't save everyone lol. Also, just to remind you, all of the clone troopers are clones of Jango Fett which is why Commander Cody looks just like him, it's all the same actor.
