Beautiful Show

here’s some missing narration from the manga to fully close of the farmland saga arc🌾🌾 “Ketil later recovered from his wound… but he lost his bountiful appetite for work and entered retirement. Stepping in for Ketil to clean up after the battle and manage the farm was his son Olmar. Olmar paid a sizeable reparation to the families of every man who was wounded or killed in the battle. The payment cost Ketil’s farm half of its land and wealth. Thorgil left the farm but never returned to Canute’s service. He left alone and was never heard from again.” Now I’m going to watch along with you and probably burst into tears again

“Somewhere not here” is the title of the first episode and perfectly ties back to the end of this arc.

My favorite episode in all of anime, followed by episode 17 and episode 9 of this season of vinland. I'll say this again, but vinland saga s2 is the best season of anime ever made, imo.

Manga reactions 🙏?. Thank you for making me rewatch this masterpiece.

“You there. You’re Prince Canute, right? I’ve come to save you” - Thorfinn 1x11. Thorfinn has kept true to his word ever since they were teenagers. Also of course it’s Thorfinn that snaps Canute out of the mindset he is in. Remember their interactions in the cart in 1x13? Thorfinn has always been capable of pushing Canute’s buttons and getting a strong reaction from him 😄 Thorfinn and Canute will always remain one of my all time favourite pairings. They are stunningly crafted foils. They were almost destined to be in each other’s lives. I really resonated with you when you talked about the ‘what could have been’ between these two. But they are true allies now and there is a real beauty to their relationship. For them knowing that there is someone out there in the world who is just as hopeful and strong willed to believe they can create a paradise on earth in such a dark time will give each other comfort. They may have different methods but that means they will both fill in the gaps of each other’s work. And for me that’s beautiful.

This is by far my favorite episode of the year.

The "carve it" sequence is absolutely beautiful. When we begin the season and we see these phrases initially, the sequence seems like it's referring to war, defending your land, fighting for justice or honor. When we see it this episode, I like the way it was described in a YT video I watched once. That it's the ideals of peace and kindness being carved into others. More specifically, Thorfinn is carving his and his father's ideals into the people around him. "Carve that encounter into me" is a line that really stuck with me from this sequence. It can be representative of everyone's encounter with Thorfinn and the "beautiful man" that he is, in addition to Thorfinn's encounters with the great people he's met along his journey in S2. Of course, take what I say with a grain of salt, as this is probably one of many interpretations. Either way, Vinland Saga's writing is in a class of it's own.

This episode will never not make me sob. I've heard some people say they're surprised by how fast Canute changes his mind, but we know who he's always been. We saw him in season 1. His shock at Thorfinn's candidness is because everyone he's been dealing with up until this point has been conniving and two-faced so he's felt that he has to take the underhanded route to ensure that his end goal can be achieved. I love that Thorfinn tells him that he's going to create a place for the people who can't live in the world that Canute creates by means of violence and then he says "for YOU and ME". So powerful. All this time with Sweyn in his head and Thorfinn's words were the only that could make a breakthrough.

Alana- "i dont know why im crying at this". Me also, *eyes full of tears.*

One of the best emotional feel-good episodes of anime I think I’ve ever seen. I’m not sure any piece of media has ever had such a happy and perfect resolution in my opinion :’) It’s just so inspiring and the “carve it” sequence is the cherry on top - it’s so beautiful. What a journey Thorfinn has had to get to this moment, and there’s still much more of it to go! Your tears are so relatable too 😭 I’m so happy you’re enjoying it as much as I did

This episode still brought me to tears the second time around 😭😭, they concluded this season so well.

Marcus

I like how the whole "Carve it" scene recalls the very first scene of season 2, instead giving it a whole different meaning. Just a perfect way of going full circle.

mf the yaoimeter really made Alana cry .......

i think Vinland Saga is just one of the greatest, most beautiful, well-written, well-drawn, inspiring and refreshing works in manga (and comic in general) out there. it's just such a change of pace from "the norm" in stories and how you usually tell them. it has such well-written and thought out characters that make sense within the plot and the setting. the plot is beautifully written and it's full of tension, struggle, sadness, joy, wholesomeness, teachings... i really love Yukimura and the world and the characters he created here. a lot of people may not like it and say "it's boring" or that it lacks action or that it's too preachy or idealistic, but i think you don't need to agree with everything portrayed in Vinland Saga to get that it has made enormous efforts to tell a story in a different way than we're used to, to find that "first method" to engage in a world like ours, to find another way... and i think that that in itself it's beautiful and it adds like a metatextual meaning to Thorfinn's quest (both Yukimura, through his work, and Thorfinn, through his adventure, are trying to find "Vinland"). i don't know... i could talk about Vinland for hours, it's such a distinctive piece of work. i'm very glad i decided to read it and i'm very glad i watched your reactions to the anime. the series indeed carved that encounter into me. thank you so much and i hope you had happy holidays!

auuuuuuuuuugh thinking back to their first encounter and then to this makes me 😭😭😭

This show leaves such an impact on how you see things. My boy Thorfinn is becoming the man he's suppose to be.

This episode is one of the best episodes in all of anime I have ever watched. It felt so healing and paid off for all the angst and pain we experienced throughout the season. It doesn't fix what happened but it gives so much hope to the future. Thorfinn is one of the greatest anime protagonists and his ideology is so needed. Imagine if everyone in the world adopted his mindset, how much better the world would be ❤️

5:00 When Thorfinn crosses his arms like Askeladd would, chills.

Felipe Aravena

also, Thorfinn calling Einar "kyôdai (brother)" and Einar responding with the same word? i was bawling

Hernán Flores

Maybe it's just an anime, yes, but it can teach you so much, about how to be at peace with yourself and with others.

Brendan C

carve it!

"in my life, i've always endured. i thought that pain was the way of the world." ripped my whole being to pieces the first time i watched this. a perfect and beautiful penultimate episode to a phenomenal work of art. thanks for sharing, alana!
