vinland saga s2 aka the try not to cry challenge

“if you’re empty, then you can fit anything inside you” is such a beautiful quote that it got me emotional the first time I watched this episode— definitely one of my favorite quotes from the series

Tyler Owens

The next episode is my single favorite episode of anime of all time EDIT (potential spoilers): I’m not even kidding when I say this story changed my life and helped me learn to stop hating myself because of my past experiences in the Army and with war. This story truly played a big role in helping me decide that I want to live and reaffirmed _how_ I should live. To give more than I’ve taken, to rebuild more than what I’ve destroyed, to add more kindness to the world than harm, and to find gratitude for the mere opportunity at life. I truly wish one day I could meet the author and thank him for what he’s helped give back to me through his work. The show even motivated me to apologize to my mother about a deep regret for how I joined the Army (at 18 without her permission) and the pain I caused her. 7 weeks after we had the discussion and I was able to get that guilt off my chest she was suddenly murdered by a gunman at her work (October of this year). I have closure with her because of this story, it directly motivated my actions. As a result I have something I desperately needed and if I didn’t it would be the source of great pain for me. What this story means to me is nearly impossible to understate as a result.

I remember reading this part in the manga and honestly felt sick when I realised what the retainers did to their wheat. I don’t call many things ‘evil’ but there is something about being with these two, caring about their relationship, caring about their freedom and futures, caring about wheat (OF ALL THINGS) and the process of creating life, seeing how much hard, honest work it goes into creating just a patch of land, seeing Einar’s joy and Thorfinn’s curiosity and spark back, and realising how easy it is to destroy because of what exactly? Jealously? Just wanting to kick down so you can feel better about yourself? It’s soo heinous. Soo unnecessary. It’s sickening.

And Sverkel is the absolute best. I still think about it years later after reading it his simple answer to Thorfinn’s question/ predicament. WORK. It’s soo simple and yet I constantly have to remind myself of it when I’m at my lowest. One thing at a time. Fill yourself up. Working on yourself is hard work but that’s how you climb out of your despair.

It might be a good idea to have some tissues or toilet paper nearby for this season.

Can't wait for next one! Love the consistent drops my friend

I really love the scene when Thorfinn reflected on himself in the past, that he had also been someone who took and destroyed. He doesn't want to gloss over that and will always remember as a reminder of what he did in the past and really tries to atone by becoming a better person. And that makes me respect Thorfinn's character more. Next episode will be more amazing

Next ep solidified Vinland as anime of the year contender for me. Peak fiction

How much do I have to pay to watch next episodes reaction today? Say I won't

*Askeladd appears on screen* “I am never going to emotionally recover from this.”

Rubi_pica

Honestly can't wait for the next episode its one of the best of the season

top tier episode along with the next. This is Thorfinns turning point. The white background is used for big moments, like Thors and Askeladds death to signify important moments for Thorfinn. This one where he says he is empty is also a big moment. its his lowest point and Sverkel played a huge role in Thorfinns development in my opinion.

Guys I understand you’re hyped for the next episode, but please can we not tell her that? It builds too much hype and sets expectations too high. You can literally wait two more days and say as much as you want in the actual episode’s comments. This is what happened for her Violent Evergarden Episode 10 reaction. Let’s just let her experience it for herself without any prebuilt hype.

Alana Misako

yeah! luckily i already watched the episode before i started getting comments about ep9, but i agree. i love that you're all excited for certain episodes, but hyping up specific episodes in other series has heightened expectations in the past. and i think it's best to watch these episodes with absolutely 0 expectations for what's to come :D

PJ

when i first watch this season, every askeladd scenes really hurts. its even worse when alana shows the same emotion tho.

Tyler Owens

Apologies for the trauma dump, I just really felt compelled to write about this show because I love it so much and your reactions have been really enjoyable. Looking forward to episode 9.
