Rinsaka

I cried when the manga ended & I cried even more when the anime ended.

Mambako

Me watching Jean and Connie scene then crying so fx badly, that’s my worst cry ever caused by any anime or movie. After that, I just couldn’t stop crying. Haven’t read the manga, for me, this is a really really good ending for a cruel world like that.

Jarue Teppen

Glad we all made it to the end. It’s been real guys

I loved the ending after credits, yes it was shocking but it was both cynical and accepting in terms of how this is a part of human nature, destroy each other until the last one survives. Will miss this anime for sure, ten years..

Comment section correct me if I'm wrong but when the scene were Eren wakes up Mikasa in the cabin, was that like a alternative vision for Mikasa were instead of saying were family she said she loved him? And in that alternative Armin dies correctly which is why Eren didn't go that route.

Julian Rother

Yes, its a what if mikasa confessed her love to him instead of shying away but it's not said that Armin would die in that route.

Before this AOT and One Piece were tied on my favorite animal but since AOT has ended currently my favorite. Will have to wait till One Piece finishes so that I can decide which might be in 50 years lol

Burezu

can't believed that scarf lived longer than Eren and Mikasa lmao

So to explain what I think the reason why Mikasa was the one Ymir was watching. There area few reasons. 1. Mikasa was born to Ackermann and Oriental clan heritage. She is completely free from the founders control and the curse of the Titan’s. Her memories cannot be erased by the Founder either, which is why her four years with Eren happen simultaneously in the Paths with her killing him. 2. With her Ackermann blood she is strong, strong enough to kill Eren throughout most of the story, just like Ymir was more powerful than Fritz. 3. From season 4 forward Eren starts to push Mikasa away, calling her a slave, and treating her like a tool. 4. Despite this, Mikasa still continues to love him, and can’t even commit to killing him even after the Rumbling because she still loves him. 5. With all of this in mind Ymir sees an idealistic version of herself in Mikasa, free and strong. But Mikasa hadn’t shown to be able to over-come her love for Eren just like Ymir hadn’t over-come her “love” for Fritz. 6. Mikasa finally does what Ymir deep down had wished she had done, she used her power to kill the person she loved because it was the right thing to do. A lot of this is subtle and told through visuals aided by few lines of dialogue, but the author did a wonderful job of visual story telling. I mean the scene with Mikasa being the bird stuck in the bird-cage, really sums up Mikasa’s situation in Season 4. She is literally trapped by her love for Eren, freedom is right there without the cage, but the cage itself is Eren. There is a lot to unpack with Ymir herself, but to keep it shorts my thoughts are; She was a mentally broken kid who attained god-like power, her mind doesn’t suddenly become suited for it, she remains as she was. That’s why she always appears as a child which was when she apparently idealized King Fritz, she is trapped in that state. After Eren is killed by Mikasa, she finally appears older, same age as when she died. As for the ending being depressing. I don’t think it really shows a cycle of violence, but more-so a cycle of history and the double-edged nature of freedom. Eren accomplished his goal; he annihilated all of the titans and gave freedom to the people of Paradis. Mikasa and all of thr scout regiment seemingly lived long healthy lives and had families of their own. They used their freedom to build for years and years. But eventually, as the lessons learned faded in time (shown by the tree’s growth and the gravestones fading away) people can use that same freedom for violence. It’s never explicitly said whether Paradis is attacked because of the The Rumbling, and I don’t think it matters much either way. The people who don’t pay attention to history are doomed to repeat it and you can use your freedom to fight for revenge or you can use it to fight for peace.

If anyone didn’t notice during the credits, it shows Eren’s friends visiting him from time to time, then it shows Mikasa is married to Jean with kids. After that it shows Mikasa had grown old, and she’s standing there with old Jean visiting him again. Finally, Mikasa is now dead and she is laying down beside his grave! My theory on the kid and the dog in the end; maybe he’s one of Mikasa’s descendants and he wants to see Eren’s grave after probably hearing about his stories over and over! And maybe he’s the one who may restart the whole titans curse when we see him go through the tree just like what Ymir did before she got the power of the titans

Ali I TWD

Maybe! But considering that Jean is the only one who shows an affection of love to Mikasa in part 2 when he fantasizes about his future after the rumbling, we can see him drinking at the balcony and Mikasa was playing with their kid in the living room! In the manga (extra pages after last chapter) , I think it shows that in fact is Jean with Mikasa standing side by side! (The panel in the extra pages can be seen more clear than the credits scene in the anime)

Jay Craig

The manga panel to me fairly obviously shows it's Jean, it's exactly how his hair looks in the flash forwards, especially in s4 e1 when you see him from behind wearing the suit in Marley

Hunter Autra

I will say as depressing as it is… the small bit of light is it seems like peace lasted long after Mikasa and the rest passed…

Logan Christie

need me a ride or die like Mikasa

Cole

felt like the ending was just foreshadowing that history was doomed to repeat itself. did look like they were able to obtain peace for a while tho
