The writing will get really good. It gives us so much insight into Askalad. Ironically, Askalad takes is almost taking on the role of a nurturing father figure to Thorfinn, imparting not just historical knowledge but profound life lessons. As he delves into the rise and fall of civilizations, Askalad subconsciously guides Thorfinn, emphasizing the importance of morals and values that one should adhere to, even in the face of inevitable change and loss. Askalad’s makes it very clear that life moves on relentlessly, with or without us and our loved ones. In Norse mythology, Ragnarok, often referred to as “the fate of the gods,” is a series of future events prophesied to culminate in a great battle. During Ragnarok, a fierce and catastrophic battle ensues among various gods, including Odin, Thor, Loki, and other mythical beings. This event leads to widespread natural disasters, the submersion of the world in water, and the eventual rebirth of the world. It symbolizes the cyclical nature of creation, destruction, and renewal in Norse cosmology. On the other hand, in Christian theology, Judgment Day, also known as the Last Judgment, is the final and eternal judgment by God of every individual. It is believed that on this day, the deeds of all people will be evaluated, and they will be rewarded with eternal life in heaven or condemned to eternal damnation in hell, based on their faith and actions during their earthly lives. Judgment Day represents the culmination of history, marking the ultimate destiny of all souls. These concepts serves to draw parallels between the Norse and Christian beliefs in the face of impending doom. The profound impact of mentors and the values they instill, shaping individuals and societies alike as they navigate the ever-changing currents of time. Askalad's role becomes is shown as a “different” approach to life then that of Thors which in a way builds the moral guidance for Thorfinn and how he should see life.
