Vinland is a real place. In fact, it is actually what the the Vikings called North America. Leif Ericson was a real person and the one who is credited with the discovery.

BTW this is historical fiction. Much of the story is based in real historical events and many of the characters are based on real people (Leif Erikson for example)

This show does have some historic facts and characters based on reality in it. Even Vinland is real, what Leif Erikson was talking about was Canada https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vinland

Harald the tyrant used to rule 10 minutes away from where I live. :P That was the first official capital of norway. Now its just a tiny village Still has the most intact buildings from that era tho, so its really neat to visit.

Couldn’t agree more on the comment “is a show not a tell”. This show portrays that story and builds characters through its subtle moments and scenes. And the OST for this show is beautiful. But yes watch and immerse yourself into the world and enjoy your time!

There is a statue of Leif Erikson at the Minnesota State Capitol. Some think he was the first quarterback for the Vikings. No. This anime is thankfully not about that.
