What should’ve been some of the best action animation of all of Jujutsu Kaisen was turned into garbage due to Japanese TV laws that force live broadcasts to fog and blur action sequences that have bright colors and fast moving frames in order to prevent potential seizures. Some of the stuff in this episode was supposed to be great animation, but it looks horrible not due to MAPPA but too stupid TV laws. The animators themselves have been very vocal about there complaints since the episode aired. It sadly looks terrible, when the original unedited versions probably looks fantastic. Ironically enough, the blurring and desaturated effects gave me more of a headache than anything else. Many others feel the same. Really unfortunate stuff.

damn that’s crazy, personally i think protecting people with epilepsy is a good thing but i’m sure people will be excited to see it unghosted when the dvd comes out

Maeve Murphy

i'm so surprised the fight was this good when it's such a small fight in the manga, like i'm so HYPED!!! eeeeee

For a moment I think I was watching Evangelion.

Back in Season 1 ep 18, one of the guys that caused chaos during the exchange event actually hammered down a nail and recited a phase to lower a veil.

I get why ghosting and dimming is a thing, but damn I feel bad for the animators. They went in so hard in this fight.

@Alana For sure we don't want people getting seizures but the Japanese Government goes WAY overboard when it comes to censorship for this sort of thing, nobody else in the world does it and they are only under this pressure to do this sort of thing because of an infamous pokemon episode many years ago that did in fact hurt a lot of people. There are much better ways to avoid this sort of thing than just straight up ruining the incredible hardwork of animators. For sure its exciting for people who will buy DVD's but for the rest of us... it sucks. And streaming services that don't air there stuff live on air, like Crunchyroll, could put up the unghosted versions but they don't, which makes it all the more annoying.

@Maeve The people who animated this episode themselves would say the opposite because of ghosting and censorship by the Japanese government. The frames are blurred together, the colors are dimmed, and lots of fog/ghosting was put into the faster moving parts of the episode... if you saw the uncensored version of this episode it would look significantly better than it does now. No one, including myself, is denying the incredible work MAPPA is putting into these episodes... it is not the animators fault or MAPPA's fault, but purely ridiculous over the top television regulations.

Exactly. This could've been some of the best animation in all of JJK, and I am terrified this is now going to be a regular occurance for the rest of the arc. There is no reason for Crunchyroll to not put up the uncensored versions as they do not air live on Japanese TV and therefore aren't restricted by those regulations. Extremely dissapointing.

The way you just cursed as the credits rolled was the same way I was in class earlier while watching this. Relatable 😂

Antonius K

That “fuck, no!” was so real😂felt that one.

I’m going into this season as a manga reader but MAPPA definitely made Mechamarus loss hurt more. And he was very close to winning too, Mahito is just too much of a problem

Vikram

It shouldn't be a thing. If only they chose a better timeslot or sent unedited footage for streaming purposes.
