What makes it hit harder is the fact that in the quick flash scenes before leading to Fido's destruction, you get to see a scene of Shin with his brother and Annette when they were younger. It just goes to show how long Fido's been with Shin throughout his lifespan.

The mistery of Fido's origin is one of the best things i've ever seen. Also the creativity of seen Fido's POV showing the living memory of Spearhead squadron is stills wonders me. The parts of Anju and Daiya!!!!....arrrrgggghhhhh.....it hurts.

PAIN. You nailed it in here, Shin had that one goal through his life and now he doesn't have anything left to hold on. He might be laughing and all, but in reality he is now just an empty husk. The conversation got cut off, but Raiden told the others he was very nervous because he felt like Shin had nothing now. Only Kurena thought Shin was ok because she was happy to see him laugh. Also it's good to review Fido's memories, the last bit of Haruto's shadow hanging over his blood was sad. He was Theo's best friend which sent Theo into a bit of a depression after he died. There's also some images in Fido's memories that are key for things to come in future arcs (Hopefully we get more seasons animated). If I remember correctly the last bit on Fido's memories was added in anime, there are some elements that are "anime original" in these series but every time, they did it masterfully, it enhanced the narrative of the LN by a lot.

The novels don't give us that gorgeous Fido memory montage. Instead the tenth volume is a short story collection mostly tracing Shin's time as a soldier. But one of them is from Fido's perspective. I can't really say anything about it because spoilers.

this show is literally just 23 bangers in a row lmfao

This show has some of the best character writing I have seen in anime. Plenty of anime/manga give us imperfect characters, but few pull it off this well. 86 manages to present us with characters whose strengths and weaknesses are so realistic and relatable on a humanistic level, while the sci-fi, mecha-war setting serves, in its simplest capacity, as a paint brush applying the perfect pressure and direction to masterfully bring out the colors of Shin and company's moments of success and failure, hope and despair, growth and regression, pain and joy.

Alana is having symbolism overload from this show lol

Ah. Here's the episode that made me cry so hard I stopped breathing and needed emergency assistance. Fun times, fun times.

cumovr

love this episode and your reaction. off topic but youre a pretty cryer Alana lmao

Princess Paladin

also, yes all those memories were Fido's life flashing before his eyes, because he was about to die. And then they killed him.

The lil montage of Daiya and Anju and his speech … this is where I end it all

Dennis

To be fair I also totally overanalysed everything the first and the second time I watched this show 🤣

halfeldian

safe to say yes since she already finished episode 12 like a week ago

The light novels were very good, great character design and plot/story, but the animators took it to a whole new level with the visuals (most scenes are indeed from the book, with some minor changes), not to mention the music by Hiroyuki Sawano. But there is actually remarkable little deviation from the light novels, which I guess hints to that it was already pretty amazing. They basically took a gold nugget and turned it into a diamond! As a matter of fact the author, Asato Asato, cried at one of the episodes because she thought it was so amazingly animated. I won't mention which though ;)
