That confession is weird but it's them so that makes it more special! HachiYuki ship has sailed with Hiratsuka-sensei and Haruno as captains 😂 If you want to know what Yukino was thinking about Hachiman the whole time through the anime then I recommend this official music video of her thoughts since we never heard her thoughts (there are no spoilers in it): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mm0QDM1jNV0

you know i watched this when it first came out , with the mutli year gaps between the seasons and everything. At the time i remember hachiman being more torn between Yukino and Yuo in the earlier sseaons, but rewatching this with you I was sooo clear that this was always the end game. Also for the time when this came out I don't remember romcom anime's haveing relationships this complex. This has always been a favorite show of mine with two awkward kids living and growing with one another. Can't wait for the last ep and its good to see that you have enjoyed it.

i love the confession sooooo much. it's so romantic????? and hachiman loving the parts of yukino that she hates is so sweet, but also my favorite underrated moment is when he tries to frame things like he's worthless and needs to give something in exchange for being in someone's life, she immediately tries to shut that down (the "that's not fair, there's not that much value in the path i'm walking--" bit), bc while she may tease him/jokingly insult him, she also really loves him + holds him in very high esteem, and doesn't want him putting himself down to lift her up. just. gahhhhhh i love this episode

That wasnt's a confession, it was a proposal. For me the fact that they did it without saying "love you" was so much better than anything direct words. As always the whole episode was full of hidden gems (like every other one), for this episode, wich I love so much, I'm going to make an exception and paste some old discussion I wrote a coule of years ago. WARNING: wall of text ahead, to not bother others I'm gonna put them in the reply of this comment.

===================== 2/10 Hiratsuka - I find very beautiful how Hiratsuka explains what love is to Hachiman: summing up all the negative things that she thinks about him she explain that she wouldn’t have all these feeling, positive and negative alike, is she didn’t care for him. There’s many types of love, what Hiratsuka is talking about is the bigger one, it’s not the romantic one, it’s not the family one, but it’s the love that contains all of those together. The absence of love is not hate, it’s indifference, I’m sure a lot of people prefers to be hated rather than been ignored. I know I’m stretching it here, because the context is totally different, but Machiavelli in “Il Principe” said that is better to be loved, and if you can’t be loved then is better be hated than ignored. And so Hiratsuka explains that if you have so many feelings toward someone, then you probably love that someone, and at the same time, simply saying that you love someone is not enough, because it’s a feeling that is born from the sum of many other feelings. And that’s why Hachiman cannot stand to reduce all of his feelings to a simple single word.

===================== 3/10 You don’t have to wait for it (No spoilers) - Hachiman begins his speech to Yui talking about responsibility, this theme is everywhere in this episode. Hachiman used responsibility as an excuse before in S3E5 when he tried to explain to Iroha why he wanted to help Yukino, and again when he repeated the same to Yukino at the end of the same episode. It was an excuse back then, because he didn’t want to face his own feelings, and it’s again an excuse now when he’s talking to Yui… but this time he realizes that he cannot anymore hide behind an excuse. I love how he come to the realization and so slap himself to avoid to fall in his old habit. - Hachiman:"I was just trying to look cool" This is a wonderful call back on how he used to do things, do you remember what Totsuka said to Hachiman S2E7? Sai: “You’re really cool, Hachiman.” and that time hachiman thought :”Cool huh? I’m anything but. I think I’m simply trying to act cool” And then in S2E8 on the bridge with Hiratsuka we have this exchange: Hachiman: “You look kinda cool.” Hiratsuka: “Well, I am trying to act cool.” as Hiratsuka-sensei pointed out, in way that Hachiman understand, that was he’s doing is just an act, and it’s not the real motive, it’s not genuine. Hachiman finally learned his lesson and this time stop himself just in time. - Hachiman: “I don’t want to lose my connection with her” Hachiman is not telling directly that he loves Yukino, he’s being rather vague, but Yui understand it right away, because she knows him and he would never even admit that in the first place up until now. In her head Yui understand that it’s already over, but Hachiman phrase could be simply be intended to be a connection as normal friends, she knows that is not going to be what she want but feelings and especially hope is something that you can’t control and so, as she closes her mouth dejected eating the words that she was about to say, she says instead: “I think you’ll still be connected to her in some way.” maybe for you this was nothing, but in my eyes I see a girl clinging desperately to the last tread, just because if is not said out loudly then there might still be a glimmer of hope left (this is the phrase that Hachiman himself says in S3E1 at the start of the episode). - Hachiman knows that it would be unforgivable to keep Yui in this limbo, he may not like her romantically, but for him she’s a precious friend, someone that he would never want to hurt. Now Hachiman learned the lesson from S2E8, to care for someone is being prepared to hurt them, and so he apologizes to her for all the pain that he caused her. Hachiman: “Sorry for all of the constant trouble” The word constant here is very important, he is not apologizing for rejecting her now because it’s the best thing he can do even if it will cause her pain, he’s apologizing for all the pain in the past, that he caused to her because he wasn’t prepared to hurt her with a rejection. It’s ironic how his refusal to hurt her in the past, on the long run, ended to bring her only more pain. - Hachiman: “I think the day will come when I can properly convey my feelings, and properly respond to other’s feelings… But you don’t have to wait for that.” This phrase is so awesome, that I feel arrogant in wanting to explain it, and so it’s with great arrogance that I do it. Here Hachiman is saying many things, the interpretation of Caleb is correct, but I dare to say that we can even add something else to it, as Hachiman is basically saying: “One day I will be able to say directly that I love someone, but you don’t have to wait for it, as I won’t say it to you”. I know that saying it like this sound terribly harsh, but this is what lies behind every rejection. Hachiman says it in a very sweet and poetic way, precisely because he cares for Yui, but no matter what, he have to hurt her right now. - Hachiman: “It’s not something a single word can convey”. The reason why Hachiman cannot say directly I love you is not entirely because of shyness. Remember how he was able to ask out girls multiple times in middle school (like Kaori), only to be rejected, also remember how he was able to say “I love you” in a joking way to Saki in S3E1. We’ve learned the reason in the previous section, and it’s because he believes that words are not enough to express his feelings, and that now those feelings are so different and so much more powerful than back then. (Continued in the Yukino section) - The animation on Yui’s face when she realized that she was rejected is wonderful, I honestly was feeling sad for her. - Hachiman leaving Yui behind while she wave at him is a callback of S3E4. Back then he did turn around to see if she was ok, but this time he doesn’t turn back, determined to not make the same mistake and hurt Yui again giving her hope. In the novel is slightly different, but the message is the same, as he glances back for a split second before going away without looking back anymore. - About the discussion around 11:00, the novel give a better perspective, as such I kind of agree with Caleb take on this, as Hachiman is really trying his best to hurt Yui as little as possible, even if it’s impossible. It’s also true that there’s another episode and I’m sure you’ll be satisfied in the end.

===================== 4/10 Iroha is the school president (No Spoilers) - Iroha scene was cut quite a bit, but that’s to be expected as this episode had to cover a lot of more important stuff. A very g00d that didn’t make it revolves around Hiratsuka (See last section for a bit of it). - I would like to point out how Iroha have grown and how now she IS the student council president! - Zaimokuza: “He even declared it was okay if it was a complete bust…” Zaimokuza give us an hint of what’s going on, Hachiman doesn’t care about the prom, he is scheming something, and he have resurrected the fake prom only as a bargain chip to reach his true objective. - Zaimokuza: “I don’t understand it” Here Zaimokuza have the courage to imitate Iroha phrase and mannerism, I find it very funny, and so it’s Iroha angered reaction to it.

====================== 5/10 Hachiman’s Plan (No Spoilers) - The meeting with Mrs. Yukinoshita and Haruno is longer in the novel, and many readers will be quite eager to tell you that. As far as I’m concerned a lot of fat was trimmed, and while the novel version is better developed, in the anime version every single important point is covered, so let’s tackled them. - The first thing to keep in mind is to understand what Hachiman objective is, he even state it for the viewer at the end of the confrontation: his objective is to make Yukino involved with his new prom, everything else is irrelevant. - Everyone in that meeting realizes that Hachiman is lying and bluffing, but still no one have yet realized why he’s doing it, and what’s his plan. - Mrs. Yukinoshita: “I thought you were a bit more clever than this.” This phrase is important to understand what Mrs. Yukinoshita is thinking. She’s not belittling him here, on the contrary she showing the respect she have for him, what she’s saying can be translated with: “I know you’re clever and I suspect you’re scheming something”, she doesn’t know Hachiman’s plan or goal, but she doesn’t want to give Hachiman the advantage in the debate, and so she replies with facts, even knowing that his real objective is not the prom. Another phrase that lead us on is when she says: “I don’t quite understand why you would do something like this.”, that can be translated as: “It’s obvious that you don’t’ care about the prom, but I don’t understand what your real plan his”. - Mrs. Yukinoshita: “This isn’t a proper negotiation” She realizes that Hachiman is not negotiating with her, remember as this is another hint for later. Hachiman even admit it as he says “That’s very true. But I was never here to negotiate with the PTA in the first place.” - Hachiman: “It seems like some people weren’t satisfied with how the previous prom turned out. Isn’t that right?” as he watched Haruno. This is a very smart move from Hachiman, as Haruno was the only one who openly stated her discontent before (in S3E10), and so now he’s using Haruno to prepare the ground for later. He knows that Haruno won’t agree on his statement, because admitting it would uncover her schemes as well, and the previous prom was approved by everyone else after all, so Haruno can only deny her dissatisfaction. This move will pay on later, but we’ll get to that. - Having obtained what he wants from Haruno now Hachiman must face the backlash of his action, he cornered himself in a position were he’s alone against everyone else in the room, as seemingly there’s no reason to make this prom. So he bumbles his way forward as he come up with a lie after another, but let’s remember that his objective is to get Yukino involved and so he have to corner himself, and while it sound great on paper, this will require some strong willpower, because it means to be vulnerable. - Please note the surprised face of everyone when he says “the plan I cam up with is better”, no one is fooled by that lie. At this point Hachiman uses the same words that Haruno told him in the previous episode (S3E10), and so Haruno understands what’s going on. While her mother can’t understand the full extent of their conversation, she notices that something is being said between the two, and so she covers her mouth with the fan and stop talking. Notice how as long as she have the fan up she never speak her mind and let Haruno talk for her, she’s basically analyzing what’s happening around her. - Hachiman can exert pressure on the realization of the prom because it’s completely volunteer based, and so not the school nor the Yukinoshita’s can officially stop him. Of course they could exert their influence over his parents to stop everything, but this would come with a steep cost for all the party involved. - At this point Haruno come up with a very clever phrase: “Do you really understand what it means to get involved in our family matters?” Haruno used this phrase before in S3E4 (you can go back and read the notes about it), so she’s clearly egging him here, as this phrase have 2 different meanings: The first meaning is the cover she uses for her mother, as she’s basically saying “Out family is very powerful, do you understand the trouble you and your family are getting into going against us?” The second meaning is more personal, its what Haruno care for the most, and it’s a callback of what she said in S3E4 during the first meeting. Here she’s saying that Hachiman is risking to ruin Yukino’s future and life unless he have the resolve to take the responsibility (the theme of responsibility will be clear later), which I may add sound surprisingly close to something a father would say to the boyfriend of her daughter. And here comes the moment when Hachiman have to be vulnerable, he knew this time would come, he walked right into it on purpose and so, even with a trembling voice, he declares that he will take that responsibility. After that Haruno don a genuine smile, maybe for the first time ever.

===================== 6/10 Why they gave up that easily? (No spoilers) - The exchange with Haruno doesn’t goes unnoticed by the mom, which stop hiding behind her fan and says “It’s better to at least feign confidence when you say things like that.” This is the moment when she realized what’s going on, but she can’t be sure of it yet, and so she speak on more question: “Do you honestly think you can do this?” This question is meant to find a definite proof of her newly found suspicion, which is promptly verified when Hachiman try to involve Yukino in his plan. - Hachiman: “Did you have any problems with the last prom?” Remember when before I said that Hachiman cornered himself on purpose with Haruno? This is when his gamble pay off, as no one in the room can refute his statement, because no one did it before when he insinuated that someone could not be satisfied with the previous prom, and so everyone goes silent for what it seems a very long moment. - But for Mrs. Yukinoshita this is a confirmation of her suspicion, with a big sigh and a smile on her face she says :”I appreciate your explanation”, her words after this phrase are just lip service, as they are only a repetition of what Hachiman said previously (“If this is a volunteer-run event…”) . - She have all the pieces of the puzzle now: 1) She know he’s clever but now he’s doing something very stoopid why? 2) “This isn’t a proper negotiation”, yes because he’s not negotiation with the mom, but with someone else. 3) He’s blatantly lying about wanting to make the prom and it’s obvious, so he’s doing this for another reason. 4) He’s willingly to take responsibility for Yukino. 5) He’s taking a very serious risk going against the Yukinoshita’s, and he have nothing to gain from it, so he’s doing it for the sake of another person. The mom is smart, with all these hints she understand that this boy is risking his neck for her daughter, and so she call herself out. As Caleb said: “This have nothing to do with me, this is something between the two of you”. - Mrs. Yukinoshita: “You should decide. You’re the one in charge, are you not?” I’m glad the brothers got the meaning of this phrase! This is the proof that while harsh, Yukino’s mom is clearly doing all of this for the love of her daughter. She may be using rather questionable methods, but we can’t deny that she’s doing because she cares for Yukino. - Something that I love about this scene is that Hachiman’s plan hinge on the fact that he came to understand Yukino very well, as he bet that she will meet his expectations. It’s the culmination of what Yukino said in S2E3: “Knowing and understanding a person are two entirely different things”.

====================== 7/10 Why did you do that? (excerpts from the novel) - Yukino: “The look my mother had… It was the same one she has when she looks at my sister” Probably do you remember my rambling on how the mom treats Yukino as a child compared to Haruno, which she treats as an adult (I talked about that in S3E4, and even before in S2E12). Remembering that, this phrase now assume a whole new meaning, since the mom now looks at Yukino like she looks at Haruno we can assume that now the mom look at Yukino as an adult, or in short, she acknowledges her. You can go and check my notes of S3E8 about Yukino’s mom, as it’s related to this scene. - Yukino: “She might have given up on me instead” It’s my impression that the mother’s actions were always aimed to make Yukino independent and to make her stand up for herself, it’s even more clear thanks to the point above, as she was treating her as a child until now, guiding her with her spartan ways. This phrase from Yukino explain that Yukino didn’t understand the whole situation. At the same time the “giving up” could also be interpreted as the mom giving up her control over Yukino, because now she acknowledges her. Let’s wait for the next episode and see if that’s truly the case. - Yukino: “Why did you say something so absurd?” Yukino doesn’t get it, we know by now that she is not g00d in reading between the lines, while Hachiman is too warped to be straightforward. This theme will be used again in a little bit by Hachiman, whe he asks her to distort her life. Hachiman replies "That was the only way I could stay connected to you.", which is the very first time he admit he’s doing this on his own will, without any feeling of obligation, and it will double down on it later even telling her that it’s his “desire” to push him in doing that. - Why Hachiman made the prom? Because as he himself says: << “There’s a lot I have to do… The both of us tend to prepare all kinds of escape routes like taking precautions, or making excuses, or hiding behind a facade, or trying to make things simple by keeping things business-related… First, I need to block every single one of those.” … I don’t think I’ll have it in me to tell her if I don’t go that far. I need to drag her into a place that’ll keep us from running.” >> - I love how Hachiman basically put himself in this mess so he could ask Yukino to “save him” and to finally balance their relationship since Yukino said “save me someday” in S2E10. Even if he did on purpose, and even if he don’t care about the prom, he truly put himself in a situation where he needs her skills and talents to come out unscathed. Even if it was a scheme, the consequences are real, and so in my opinion it cannot be called a sham.

========================== 8/10 The best confession ever (excerpts from the novel) I know this is only my opinion, and I don’t like talking in absolutes, but just for this one let me be childish and gush about this. - Hachiman: “Saying all that stuff about ‘taking responsibility’ was totally insufficient." Hachiman here is referring to what he said in S3E5 to both Iroha and Yukino, and as we already said above in the Yui’s section he used it as an excuse back then. If you’re curious you can go back and check the notes on that episode. - Hachiman: “Obligation has nothing to do with it. It’s more like I want that responsibility. Or rather, I want you to let me have it.” I love this phrase so much, as Caleb and Jacob said it’s simply beautiful. I don’t have anything more to add… I told you I was going to gush about it this time. - Hachiman: “Allow me the privilege of distorting your life” Of course this is a love confession, but as Yukino herself says: “You were already warped from the very beginning. Though I was too.” and as Hachiman puts it in the novel: << I was someone who was too twisted, and she was someone who was too honest. To other people, we appeared to have a warped shape. They were just so different they were incompatible, but with respect to what warped them, they were likely the same. Every time those warped parts clashed, our shapes would gradually change, eventually to the point that they couldn’t be undone. >> - Hachiman: “I can’t say it. No way. You really think I can put that into words?” This is continuation of what he said to Yui, as a single word cannot convey his feelings. In the novel Hachiman explain this concept in a wonderful way, and so here it is: << Just a few words weren’t enough, that’s why. Even if I went through all of my actual thoughts, pretenses, jokes, and stock phrases, I had no confidence I’d be able to convey everything. It’s not that simple of an emotion. It may contain the emotion that could be conveyed with a few words, but if I stuffed that emotion into a single framework, it would be nothing more than a lie. I had gone through so many words, came up with all kinds of crazy logic, put all of my reasons, environments, and situations together, threw out my excuses, removed any obstacles and closed off all of my escape routes to finally make it to where I was now. … If only there were much easier words I could’ve used to convey everything to her. If only this emotion was much simpler. If this was just a simple case of love and affection, I’m sure I would never yearn this much for her. I’m sure I would never have to feel I’d lose her forever if I let her go. >> - As Caleb said, all the small gestures, the punches, the tug, the bantering, all these little moments are so warm and display perfectly the love between these two people, it feels so realistic and special. I know that these 2 are a kind on their own, as they’re very different from normal people, or “warped” as they like to define themselves, but this is what makes this story and this moment so special. Besides, the fact that these 2 are different from “normal” people doesn’t make it unrealistic as some detractors like to say. As someone who know at least one person that totally fit this shyness and awkwardness to a T, I don’t even have to use the imagination to paint them as real people. - After all his words failed to make a breach into her, a simple gesture as taking her hand make finally possible for him to communicate his feelings. After the two of them basically propose to each other, Yukino lean into him and he hugs her, as Hachiman describes it: << Our feelings that couldn’t be described no matter how hard we tried were, without a doubt, conveyed through the warmth of our touch. >>

Predictabowl

========================== 9/10 Random stuff (No spoilers) - The confession scene is located over the Inage Land Bridge (Inage Rikkyo, or Inageritsu bridge), in Chiba. As every location in the anime, the staff took extra care on making the background as realistic and close as possible to the real locations. When this episode aired, the fans swarmed google map to leave hilarious 5 stars review about the bridge, with reviews like: “This is where I proposed to my wife, I would never forget it! Highly recommended” So much was the traffic that google had to disable it as it was basically an unintentional DOS. Later they deleted all the reviews and put up the bridge location again, and since then others fans left other reviews, but it never reached the numbers it had before they took it down, but even then I will remember them as long as I live. - Do you remember how many times Yukino got uncomfortable when people tried to get physically close or to hug her, like with Yui in S2E9 or Iroha in S3E2. I find it very telling that this time she's the one who get close to hug him instead. - Caleb: “there will be another show replacing it” This is the truth and is how it should be, but even knowing that, it doesn’t easy the pain of letting it go. I still remember in season 1 as the brothers was saying something like “but there’s 3 seasons so there’s still a long way to go”, and then it ended in a flash. And again how I was thinking the same thing in S2E6 as it was midpoint of the series but still I feared for the moment when we had to say g00dbye… thinking it now it’s like talking about the glass half-full or half-empty, which is the same reasoning Hachiman used in S2E11 during the marathon with Hayato. Anyway I hope that you all will have a lot more or wonderful weeks of anime fun, but for me the next week will be the last, as my anime enjoyment stopped last year with Oiregairu. - Warning: Sarcasm incoming Jacob: “should is a nasty evil word… When you do something because you should just stop!” Agree! And that‘s why every time I have work that I SHOULD do, I just stop and don’t do it! Procrastination is the key of fulfilling your desires! - The episode preview, which the brothers skipped, is basically book end with S1E1, as Hachiman recites the essay that introduced him to the audience at the very beginning of the series.

============================= 10/10 Novel’s Notes (excerpts from the novels) The episode covers 2 chapters of Vol. 14. There’s not much to say as in the last 2 episodes the anime adapted the novel quite well. - Hachiman’s thoughts when Yui ask him if it’s ok with the club ending: << I couldn’t irresponsibly dodge the question, nor could I hide behind a veil of lies. There’s no doubt she’d smile and forgive me if I chose to run away, poke fun at the situation, and confuse her, but I couldn’t possibly take advantage of that. I couldn’t betray her like that. It’s because she’s the one person in the world I didn’t want to hate me. >> - And again when she’s about to express her wish: << I wasn’t qualified to hear what she had to say beyond that. Because there were still things I needed to say. … Now, I could understand everything about Yuigahama’s way of doing things. Because right now, I was trying to understand what she was telling me. It may not be logical, it may not be something that could be explained, and it may be just a mix of our subjectivity and intuition, but in trying to understand in that way, we would fill in the differences between us. >> - In a little missing scene we see how Hiratsuka and Iroha learn about the new prom. While it’s not overly relevant to the plot, Hiratsuka reaztion is wonderful << Iroha: “U-Um, what is this? I didn’t hear anything about this…” Hiratsuka: “I see, you don’t know anything, huh? This must be Hikigaya’s work, then.” Hiratsuka-sensei undid her folded arms with a look of excitement. Why was she happy…? I was a little bit disturbed, but then she tried to boldly make her exit while humming. >> << Hiratsuka-sensei acted as if it didn’t matter, but she gave me an explanation. Apparently, the prom we were supposed to have at first got complaints and was stopped. But senpai planned his own prom that was far worse than what we had, which allowed us to hold our prom since it was more proper. Basically, it was a pointless plan that served as a scapegoat or an underdog, or something like that. Iroha: “I don’t get it…” The words slipped out of my mouth, and Hiratsuka-sensei agreed with a grin. Okay, so why was she so happy about it…? … “I’m sure he has his reasons,” Hiratsuka-sensei said, acting like an older sister. Yet, she was still happy. … She had such an affectionate smile and happily made her way out of the room, as if she was going on a date, while I was left behind in shock. >> - In the end Iroha understand what Hachiman is doing: << My senpai was the worst person ever, and he was such an incredibly, rotten scumbag. His eyes were mostly rotten, but his personality was even worse. That’s why, he could use any means necessary to achieve his goals. A big event like a joint prom was bound to involve all sorts of parties, but he only saw it as a means to an end. That means, his goal was… When I arrived at the answer, a smile formed at my lips, simultaneously leaving it was a whisper. “I seriously don’t get it at all…” >> - Hachiman wonder if resurrecting the prom is the right method << Honestly speaking, I was starting to wonder deep down if I could’ve approached things differently, that I might’ve overlooked a simpler way that wouldn’t leave anyone with ill feelings. It’s just that I couldn’t see any value in something that could easily be changed by a few words or a single method. … If just a few words were enough to change things—no, something that could be reversed only for it be turned back was obviously something you couldn’t take back. >> - Hachiman is using the other school to have a bit more footing in debating with the Yukinoshita: << The d*mmy prom that was supposed to outlasted its usefulness was unknowingly brought back to life. Wrong, I was the one who forced it back. Yesterday, I sent a mail to Kaihin Sogo High School, outright lying to them that they were free to proceed, made my way to the UG Club and begged them with aggressive prostrations to update the site. >> - As Hachiman navigates with words against Mrs. Yukinoshita, he uses all the info he have gathered so far << Based on everything that had happened until now, Yukinoshita’s mother sought to avoid any potential disputes with her supporters. Hayama Hayato once said that school affiliates were a constituency for the local government members, so it’s likely they wanted to avoid any unnecessary conflict with other schools. >> - By this point the mom really likes Hachiman, and enjoys debating with him << When I feigned ignorance, Yukinoshita intensified her glare. I looked away from her menacing eyes to see her her mother ahead with a pleasant smile on her beautiful and slender countenance. She displayed an innocence that a child had when solving a puzzle. “Am I right to assume this was all planned by you?” >> - When Haruno talked about family matters Hachiman knew where it would lead << “Hikigaya-kun, are you going to deny all of that? Do you understand what it means to stick your nose into our business?” “That—” Yukinoshita opened her mouth to answer, and I was confident she’d say I had nothing to do with it. But I had no intention of letting her continue. I let out a weary sigh to interrupt her and nodded my head multiple times. “I do.” I understood just how absurd it was to actually say it. I knew for a long time now. It was something I had been asked numerous times in the past. I was extremely aware of what it implied. It’s why every time I was posed the question, I would run away from answering it, or just sidestep it and sometimes fool myself. … I really couldn’t believe I had to say something like this at this place in front of all of these people. >> - In the anime we see Hachiman and Yukino walking together home, but this is a first, normally they never had the chance to walk home together before. This is because they don’t normally take the same road home, as they live in different zones. But this time Hachiman is doing it on purpose << If I turned left here, I could make it to the street that led to my home. But as we were walking together, I missed the opportunity to part ways with her. …No, that wasn’t it. I had many opportunities to leave, but I chose to ignore them all. >>

This confession is so beautiful and unique!! Im happy you finally saw this, one of my fav moments of the anime.

Perfect episode, I wonder how much Haruno would have paid to see that. But seriously, with all the time invested into the series, I was feeling very anxious as the pages left to read got fewer and fewer. How could it deliver on the payout, with all my build up expectations. But it did. Sure some side characters' stories were left a bit hanging. The main dish delivered though, thematically, logically and emotionally. Even if it didn't get the attention it deserved (flawed marketing), it probably was the Evangelion of this decade. Thank you so much for sharing your journey with me.
