the yui scene at the end always breaks my heart

My favourite is Iroha as well. While I also like Yui, I didn't like the whole cunning and self-deceiving side to her and Yukino was just a bit boring for me, especially with the less screentime she got.

My favorite is Yukino, she's the most complicated and interesting to me but i really like all the characters tbh. There is a lot of complexity and depth to all of them. I find them flawed and likable which i love.

Yukino might actually be the most interesting and well written character of the show (at least equal to Hachiman) but with the anime cutting a lot of her scenes in particular and with her character being a lot more subtle than Iroha and Yui a lot of it goes under. In terms of writing quality Iroha in particular is pretty overhyped. She is the best girl of those who just want to turn their brain of and go "Ha ha, cute girl said funny running gag rejection".

I get why Iroha is very popular as she is very entertaining but i think or i would like to believe that's also because people see that there is depth to her as well. Her "foxy" persona and the balance of her selfishness with also being a nice person is great.

I think the competition is about who can convince the PTA to make Yukino's prom happen, and not about whose prom gets chosen. Hachiman is competing against Yukino's strategy of dealing with the PTA - to revise the plan to meet their concerns. However, I'm less sure about his motivation for keeping the plan a secret from her.

yeah iroha isn’t just a turn your brain off and laugh character. she has a lot of depth as well. she’s the most bubbly (or yui maybe) and definitely the most forward and people are drawn to her for that but there’s so much more to her beyond that.

i don't mean she has no depth. I mean she has a lot less than someone like Yukino or Haruno. Compared to most romcom she has a ton of depth but she doesn't stand a chance against Yukino (especially in the Light Novels)

Yup. At a very fundamental level Yukino IS the show, because all the key conflicts boil down the contrast between Hachiman and Yukino. It may be hard to hear, but anyone who watches this show and "prefers" Iroha to Yukino simply did not understand the show at all, as over 50% of the plot points went over their head. No point watching a show like this if you're not even paying attention.

The spot Hachiman and Iroha talked at is a real location. There are several videos on YT of people who journeyd to the locations of the anime, worth watching one or two of them. Such a nice episode.
