Love how they mention the eyes. Eyes have been commonly associated with one’s soul and their inner truth. “Major’s eyes are beautiful” can be taken literally with him having beautiful eyes or symbolically showing us he has a beautiful soul (through his care and love and upbringing of Violet). Another interesting thing is Blue eye are know to portray love and innocence which perfectly aligns with Violet’s personality and Green with jealously (can be taken in different manners). Eyes are the first point on falls in love and lips/mouth where it leads. For Violet to love his eyes is the beginning of her love for Major, but is not limited to his physical appearance but his soul and character too which is why she feels so much more as she comes to understand her emotions more and more. And their love is a different kind of love which in a way transitions from one that of a protector to protected, to familial, to respectful, to romantic/unconditional. There so much more to come, so enjoy!

2023-04-10 22:06:46 I recommend (if you have the stomach) to listen to the Dan Carlin's podcasts episodes 'Ghosts of the Ostfront', it's about WW2 and the battle between Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union, Tyrant vs Tyrant and how it was for the people who lived in the towns and cities that were in the middle of the battlefield. There's many tales of kids turning into feral animals and living in caves and holes made by the bombardment as they had to find very brutal ways to try to survive alone in the middle of the battlefield.
