"Once Again, he turns back to the path from where he came", I think that perfectly summarize this episode. Hachiman was changing and little by little he was allowing himself to make relationship with other people, however after hearing that Yui was the owner of the Dog he saved his cynical nature immediately assumed that their relationship was fake and that it was build out of pity. I don't want to spoil but this is one of my favorite scenes on season 1.

I kind of get where hachiman is feeling. Kind of. He feels like she only friends with him because of the accident. And because Yui never told him, he starts to question their previous interactions and her intentions behind it. Is she only friends me b/c of this? If the accident didn’t happen, would she have ever talked to me? If our relationship derived from this random circumstance, is this really a true friendship. The problem is Hachiman is thinking in circles instead talking about it with Yui or taking this opportunity to be friends with her. But again our boy has been alone for a long time and his mindset is very pessimistic. I’m writing a lot, wow

I feel this episode is when oregairu finally starts

I agree with you so much! Everything prior is just a prologue for what happens from now on, I love the writing in this show 😭

What gets me about Hachiman's attitude is that he's basically developed it as a self preservation mechanism. The give away is him talking about falling for girls that gave gave him even the slightest time of day only to find out that they were just being "nice." Basically, my boy is trying to keep himself from getting the wrong idea, and thinks that the only reason Yui's being nice to him is because of the accident or that she feels bad. He worked hard at being alone, but that's just a coping mechanism, and it's turning into a self fulfilling prophecy.
