omg yes I’ve been waiting for this. This show is easily my favorite anime, and I couldn’t tell you how many times I cried. Your in for a ride, can’t wait!

I am so excited for this amazing ride of a watch along. Top 10 anime for sure.

In some episodes, you will need a towel, even a beach towel because the tissues won't cut it. And drink a lot of water beforehand cuz you'll lose it!

Violet is a masterpiece, the movies are amazing as well especially the Finale

Jasmine Tea Enjoyer

agreed, its weird seeing a lot of people hate on the final movie when reactors get to that point tho, i thought it was the perfect conclusion to the story

RPSiege

This show really forces one to utter “wow… this is gorgeous…” every few minutes, so you’re not the only one

This series wasn't adapted from a manga but from a light novel, a very short one to be honest since it only had 2 volumes I think and some extra book that was made into one of the movies. Same with 86, the anime was adapted from the Light Novels Volume 1 to 3.

Ecodude

Well the movie is almost all original content, mixed with some things here and there from the Light novel, but yeah It is an amazing movie

Jasmine Tea Enjoyer

yeah i think the vast majority of the small but loud minority of people who dislike the final movie were just totally clueless on what was going on in terms of characters emotions during the 13 episodes of the series which is... embarassing for them lol, can't talk specifics cause dont wanna spoil anything but if you know, you know

The soundtrack to this show and its movies, which I think is beautiful, was composed by a young American, Evan Call, who was 28 years old when he was selected for this project. He has remained productive in Japan, recently writing the music for the NHK drama, "The 13 Lords of the Shogun."

Jasmine Tea Enjoyer

i hope we stay in the RomCom/Romance/Drama/SliceOfLife era forever

This is my favorite anime I didn't expect to see you reacting to it

Jasmine Tea Enjoyer

apparently she has watched the first season than stopped which is sad because the whole 2019 reboot series is masterful

10/10 anime for sure but if its your fav you should watch more Kyoto Animation shows (same studio that made this). they have a lot of shows that are even better than this imo.

Aishiteru…. I don’t think it’s understood how loaded and deep the word “aishiteru” actually is. It is rarely used in layman’s terms in most cases people say tsuki or daitsuki (I like you). But “aishiteru” is more of a feeling, a memory, a deep fondness which is portrayed by action rather than words. It is an endearing word which is also used to convey deep feeling at times like the final ‘goodbye’. And for the General to use it then couldn’t have been more perfect. As you watch the series it really makes you question what the difference is between “love” and “aishiteru”. This show really taught me a lot and hope you enjoy all the hidden meaning and subtexts in its writing, imagery and sound. It a show you can truely analyse and interpret in many ways and truely a masterpiece.

Additionally the role of a Auto Memory Doll, is that of a poet in a way. The time it’s set in the average person does not has the ability to read and write so the common folks would use these “educated”-(emotional intelligence) ‘dolls’ to write a message. But the meaning is further explained in the show but it’s not just the writing the dolls do but the feelings as well (notions of empathy and sympathy)

The fictitious geography in the world of Violet Evergarden, notably the Continent of Telsis and states like Leidenschaftlich, presents interesting cultural landscapes. For instance, in the restaurant scene of Ep.1, Hodgins was seen eating with chopsticks. And chopsticks make repeat appearances, even beyond the city of Leiden. The food that shows up is an intriguing mixture too. I want the fish that Violet was eating (at least slicing) in Ep. 1.

It was Tsukki's VA (Haikyuu) for that blonde boy!

MishkaTho

Violet’s VA is Ishikawa Yui who’s also voicing Mikasa in SNK 🙂

let’s go! really excited for these reactions 🤩

Violet Evergarden is the one of the most beatiful anime I've seen in my life. It's a piece of art in motion. It's a sad but hopeful show. Bring tissues.....a lot!!!!

2023-04-27 17:32:22 I once had a chance to see Yui Ishikawa, CV Violet, in person when she gave a stage reading in a small & intimate venue (size of a school classroom) in Tokyo. An unpretentious and very sweet person (and looks exactly like in photos). It was just her and a piano accompanist in this stage reading, and Yui certainly demonstrated her talent. In one sequence, Yui was reading the parts of a young woman and her deceased mother conversing. When it was the daughter's turn, Yui was actually crying, as we could see tears in her eyes and Yui was sniffing. But when it was her mother's turn, just 10 seconds later, Yui's voice completely changed, with no effect from the crying at all. And she did that back and forth for 10 minutes. After that scene was done, when it became time for her to sing, Yui was still sniffing and clearly trying to clear her throat. It was amazing. I still cannot figure out how she instantaneously masked the effect of her actual crying when she did the non-crying part. It wasn't like "I'm going to clear my nose and throat while someone else is doing the other line" because she was the other line and was back to crying the line after that! I knew Yui is also a stage actor, but I had never seen anyone pull that act off anywhere.

If you can get through the sad aspect of the show, the hopeful part could help to bring some ligth. It's not a easy show to watch altough. It touch subjects like PTSD and other things I don't want to spoil. Hope this was helpful to you.

If you feel like watching some anime movies again, I would recommend "Josee, The Tiger and the Fish" Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QvgpMxoyDds

Trust me, buckets of tears won't be enough. This series with tax you oceans of tears! But every drop is worth it.

Seiyuus (Japanese voice actors) are a class of their own. Their are the equivalent of the mega talented Hollywood stars.

I know that in Japan aishiteru (愛してる) is pretty much only used during marriage as a vow to always love and be with someone. It is used to describe the actions one is promising to commit to, as you just said. It is similar to vows like 'in sickness and health'. It is a statement of commitment and that one doesn't just love someone, but that the love will be eternal. It is far more meaningful that just 'I love you', English have no true equivalent to it. The Japanese are such romantics, they really give the French and Italians a run for their money!
