I know this is a super late reply because I just finally got a copy of the movie to watch. But you are spot on about the movie Mai was in. It resulted in a large increase in donors. The books say how big the increase was, but I don't remember off the top of my head.

So I finally got a copy of the movie to watch. It wasn't bad. The beginning is pretty rushed because they had to do some exposition that was originally in the earlier books. For instance the scene where Sakuta and little Shoko meet at the hospital was in Futaba's arc. And him teaching her how to bathe Hayate was earlier as well. They removed a lot of very emotional parts from the film. (SPOILERS FOR THE BOOKS BELOW) Like Mai's mother slapping Sakuta at the hospital and blaming him for Mai's death. Sakuta watches a longer interview with Mai on the TV during her memorial service. When Sakuta goes back to the present, he desperately tries to get Futaba to see him, even writing on the board directly in front of her. On New Year's Eve, Sakuta, Mai, Futaba, and Kunumi are all at the hospital when the doctor comes out to tell them that Shoko has passed. I had to put the book down for 10 minutes at that point, it was just so devastating to read. Still good film, though!

This movie was so crushingly amazing. I also conclude the following: Shoko is Best Girl. Mai is the best girlfriend in anime. Futaba became one of my favorites because of this movie. Nodoka was right; Sakuta is truly blessed for having Mai.

Daniel

There is a new movie. Will u also react to it?

2 New "Bunny Girl" movies will be available in official English translation in 3 days I think. Sub on March 24th, Dub on March 25th.

Wildstar

I gotta go grab some tissues for this one

I’d like to think that the movie Mai did was so popular that a lot of people signed donor cards after watching and Makinahara gotten the transplant from another person. Thank you for a heartfelt reaction for this series! Loved your Horimiya, YLIA and Kaguya watch-troughs (a big sucker for romance/slice of life myself). Hope that someday you will discover Spice and Wolf too!

Hi Alana! I didn't exactly know where I should do this, I just wanted to ask if you could check out an anime named Higehiro, and react to it in the future, hope you have wonderful holidays <3

I'll explain one important detail for you because it isn't really explained well in the movie. The heart disease didn't really go away. What happened is that due to the movie Mai starred in, more people became aware of the importance of organ donation so they picked up donor cards. One of those people happened to die, and that's how Shoko was able to survive. Going back to the past can't magically heal you from a heart disease but the sentimental value Mai felt towards starring in a movie about a girl with a heart disease did turn out to save Shoko in the end.

George-Calin Petruța

As a short explanation for that ending: Yes, she is all right now, but the heart disease did not went away by itself. That movie that Mai-san played in helped people become more aware of the possibility of being a donator. Basically, because of that movie, a lot more people took the "donor" card and one of them, unfortunately, lost their life and gave their heart to Shoko. *Update* I just saw a few people wrote this so yeah, sorry for the repeated content :)

Lucas Gomes

gosh, I never though of that, Mai even says that sakuta is alwasys donating money for this heart disease cause and stuff

Arararagi

Thank you for your reactions! I hope one day you'll react to the "Violet Evergarden" series and movies!

The flower sakuta drew on makinohara's homework is similar to drawing a star on a younger kids homework

probably the best anime romcom drama i've ever watched - the bunny girl senpai anime and movie have been following the original light novels, and it seems like the sequel will be following the titles, "Rascal Does Not Dream of a Sister Venturing Out," and "Rascal Does Not Dream of a Knapsack Kid." a short trailer was uploaded to YouTube 3 months ago by Aniplex, and @aobuta_anime on twitter. Kaede seems to be the main character of the next movie as the promos depict current Kaede standing next to a puddle, and panda-loving Kaede in the puddle's reflection!

just wanna said something about shoko's move. She Deliberately coincides with Mai's date location, to induce Sakuta to change the date location with Mai to another place. She knew that Sakuta would choose Mai and also choose to die. In this case, she just tell him "You will die on the way to Mai" without telling him the real location.

Shoko's adolescent syndrome is similar to Koga's. "Present" is when Shoko was in fourth grade in elementary school. And all the animations we're seeing from the point of view of Sakuta are the future that fourth-grade Shoko is looking at. Since Shoko's adolescent syndrome was caused by "anxiety about the future," when she saw her future and returned to the fourth grade, she was no longer anxious, so the adolescent syndrome did not occur. And so she didn't meet Sakuta. (Although Sakuta and Mai seem to be dating somehow) And most importantly, "The reason why Shoko is alive" On Sakuta and Mai's way to the sea, they talk about the movie that Mai starred in. The movie was about "a sad story in which a girl with a heart disease eventually dies without finding a heart to transplant." The movie left a big impression on people, and there was a trend to make donor cards nationwide. So Shoko was able to get a heart to transplant to her other than Sakuta and Mai, and she underwent surgery safely.

Coco22

I thought she wanted him to meet her at the shrine to keep him away from the actual location of the crash though, she didn't expect Sakuta to figure out the whole heart transplant thing. Shoko probably knew that Sakuta wouldn't let her die and would go to the place where shoko told him he would die, and therefore told him to meet her at a different location to avoid him going to the corner where the accident happened.

Leegion

That's what I like to think as well, that Mai playing the role got more people to be organ donors, and saved her. My heart was in my throat when I first watched this, and it still made me tear up watching it again, it really reaffirms faith in people and kindness.

Yellow_hat_gnome

That was too good! Thank you! (Mai dying nearly kill me… that was too stressfull)

Paden Snell

Love this movie just wish they explained a little bit better how shoko ends up being ok. Went way over my head the first time and i was so confused i had to google lol.

Toidleboy

lol yessss. putting her through the wringer with the good ones haha

keniskandar

Thanks for sharing your reaction, Alana! This movie makes me feel like it’s possible to change the present and future by wishing hard enough, accepting myself, and/or coming to certain decisions.

Rosinante

Love watching your reactions to the romance films. If you ever get the chance to watch I Want to Eat your Pancreas I'd highly recommend

peetskeet

Mai starred in a movie about a girl with heart disease which inspired people to become donors in the new “timeline” or present. More donors = more hearts for shoko! At least that’s my take on the ambiguous ending.

Luis Arispe

Masterpiece!!..This show is a masterpiece. I don't know how many times I've watched it and I still loving it. That is why everyone who watched it jump of joy when the news of more is in the works.

CarbonDog

I love Futaba's personality throughout the series
