I haven't read the EX Novel (the author of ReZero made an entire LN just about Wilhelm's back-story) so I cannot say this 100% fact, but I am pretty sure Wilhelm told Theresia that he loved her at some point. She's only been dead for around 14 years. Many of his flashbacks solely focus on his regrets of not being able to "protect" (Theresia specifically) and I think that final flashback includes the regret of him not saying "I love you" to her on more time when he had the chance to. I'm confident that Wilhelm grew out of his angsty teen phase and said he loved her at some-point in their marriage. Also as down-bad as Rem is in this episode she is on another level in the novels during that final scene lmao. The Down-Bad Demon Twins truly never win.

This episode is my favorite of the first season. Wilhelm's backstory is so heartbreaking.
