So glad you reacted to this!! God, the arrangement was fantastic. Absolutely love it. Yes, grittier is the word I've been looking for! You're not the only one who would pay for this version to put it on their playlist. Stray Kids really were out of this world good yesterday. ANd they got to close the show, which is pretty awesome...and well deserved. To me, it was the act of the evening. Actually...of both evenings. Although....3Racha's collab with Tiger JK and Jung Jae-il (who is a composer and I'm not sure how to spell his name because I got different versions of it)..boy that was...well, I won't say a word. Just be prepared. It's awesome. So Skz all around for me hahaha. Loved the story telling too .I can't remember any other stage during the awards doing it to that extend. Especially with the bit of filming with Felix and Hyunjin in between. You can see how much they've learned from Kingdom, I think. And they bagged three awards. And we found out Maxident was nominated for the album of the year and they got another nomination for one of the big ones. So I am pretty damn sure that next year there's no going around them anymore. I know lots of Stays are a bit disappointed there was no daesang this time, but three awards plus the nominations, as the only 4th gen group...they've done well. Knowing how they've been talking about feeling the pressure with every win, maybe it's a good thing they didn't win a daesang yet. I don't know. I just know I'll enjoy watching them grow even bigger. And now I REALLY want to see them live too!

Now I'm going to have to go hunting for the 3Racha collab. I'm really interested to hear that one and to be introduced to Tiger JK. I'm sure they felt a twinge of disappointment for not getting a daesang, I mean, you can't help but hope, right? But I'm also sure they were over the moon about the awards and nominations they did get. SKZ's rise in popularity has been quick and extensive. Like you say, I wouldn't be surprised if there was a little bit of relief mixed in there since I can only imagine how pressured they already feel to keep performing and producing at this level.

Katja van den Berg

OH do!! It's on the mnet channel on YouTube and you won't be disappointed. It really is fantastic. Of course there was hope. And looking at the numbers, it was incredibly close. For the fan's choice and for the album. THey were number one for fan's choice in 111 regions, BTS in 114. And with the album: BTS's Proof was from earlier this year and Maxident is 400k away from being the biggest selling album overall for 2022, after only a few weeks since release. It was that close. So yeah, I'm sure they're very aware of numbers and had hope, but they were so genuinely happy and thankful. With all three awards. I know they can act, but I think we can tell the difference. Anyway...yeah, they were really really happy.

In the same way that you have some SKZ content to catch up on, I need to catch up on your videos soon! I've been rather busy so i'll probably get around to watching those later, but I just had to watch this one now, lol! Such an astounding performance. Incoming gushing over this performance, apologies in advance 😂 A few things I love about this: This performance was a lot less prop heavy then past MAMA performances and at first I thought that might have made it have less "wow factor". But after watching the whole thing a few times now, I've realized that it's my favorite and probably their most impressive MAMA performance because SKZ simply doesn't NEED the props and crazy stage sets to be impressive. Their stage presence and charisma MORE than fills that huge stage. In fact, I feel like having a less prop-centric performance really gave them an opportunity to shine in their actual skills. Their choreographer made a post on social media after this stage just saying that after almost 5 years of working with SKZ, this was the first time that he actually got emotional watching them perform, and talked about how proud he was and how hard the members worked despite how tired they were. Super cool to hear stuff like that from people who work with them or staff members that shows how much pride they take in SKZ. Also Hyunjin was absolutely crazy. Rather disappointing that the camera work didn't fully showcase his performing as well as it could have, but he killed it nonetheless. The fact that he was suspended in mid air, leaning back with just a couple straps under his arms and lower back, no head support or anything supporting his legs for like a minute and a half, to go immediately into that intense performance. Crazy. There are a couple fancam clips of him from this performance where you can really see him having a hard time in between his moments off camera. He sat down and kind of put his head between his legs for a moment like he was gonna pass out. And as soon as the performance ended he winced and just sort of collapsed to the floor. He must have been so exhausted. Side note: lots of people like to act as though Hyunjin's main draw as a performer was his long hair and that without it his performance isn't nearly as good. I think this stage is an excellent testament to the fact that he has never needed the long hair to be SKZ's not-so-secret weapon for performance. He really shines in stages like this. Also i loved the VCR of Hyunjin as Dr. Frankenstein (i assume) and Felix as the monster. So cool. I totally agree with it being a bit grittier! As i was watching the Venom performance I kept having this feeling like something about the choreography and darkness of the whole stage sort of felt like SKZ had been killed by the spider, infected with some sort of parasitical venom and is now like a dark, reanimated version of themselves dancing like a puppet. That's the vibe I got at least, lol. Especially with Hyunjin descending from the spiderweb like he did. Not saying that's what it was supposed to be, just that the vibe felt that way. Maaaan, that moment after Seungmin's high note when they all sprint to the second stage and do the finale. I got goosebumps, lol. Something about them all running together like a pack created such a cool/electrifying pause before the final chorus. How they perform for almost 9 minutes, then do a flat out sprint and then straight back into the most intense part of the choreography, I'll never know. Ugh. Okay. I need to stop 😂 I'm just so impressed and proud. They've had one hell of a year and it's been non-stop craziness, so major respect to all the boys for the sheer level of effort put into this stage.

(Side note: since you're a literal book editor I just wanna mention that I know I use WAAAYY too many commas in a completely incorrect way to form pauses where I would verbally pause if I was speaking. It's a bad habit that I don't know how to break anymore 😂 I swear I try not to)

K-pop Auntie

LOL, don't worry about commas. It doesn't stick out at all. Agreed. What a performance. When I first brought up the video, I was thinking 'Are they really going to be doing their usual choreo for 9 mins straight?' Yup. And why not throw an all-out sprint in there as well. All with vocals that didn't sound winded at all, at least not to my ear. Phenomenal.

Its a reaaaaaally cool performance really. I watched MAMA entirely and I'm not even being biased, SKZ's performance was special. Everyone was in awe. Btw, they finally starting to get the recognition they deserve in Korea. After this performance, many Koreans started talking about SKZ and praising them. Some even said that they felt it was genuinely good because they were almost the only group who didn't lipsync, whose mics were actually open and how cool it was to see them sweat so much(meaning that they really went all). Even Spotify daily average new listeners got doubled! I'm sooo proud! Although we were robbed hard on MAMA, I'm still very satisfies thanks to their amazing performance~ They really were the main event of that night! No wonder they were closing the show~ Many people are saying that SKZ basically made MAMA their personal concert~ Btw, the Japanese dancing team and Chan both said that the performance almost didnt happen because too many adjustments were made right on spot in a limited time. They even said that there were changes in the last minutes but once they were done with the performance, the producer and etc all were congratulating them with tears in their eyes so I guess it was very hard and stressful preparation Right after I watched this performance, I tweeted 2 things: about the spider and the arrangement! God its sooooo good! I would really love if they will release the mama ver to spotify! Versachoi and Bangchan did an excellent job arranging the original track! Soooo good! I think I stan Versachoi too! Who is basically like the 4th member of 3RACHA at this point~ He is the same age as Chan...sooo young and soooooo talented!

I saw a little bit about issues occurring with the performance that almost made it not happen. Not entirely sure what was going on. Whether it was a staffing issue, the stage not being set up like how they thought, sound issues, who knows? But it's making a lot more sense of how I'd been hearing that SKZ themselves as well as their choreo teacher and all were sooooo proud of them for this performance. Apparently, this was SKZ being real, professional idols. Having to adapt on the spot and still pulling off an epic performance like this. I would never have guessed there were such big issues that they almost had to cancel the stage. And agreed on that arrangement. I'd buy it.
