Graftsmen occupy the lowest caste among the fleshcrafters of the Burial Host. As journeymen that have not yet passed their master’s examination, they don’t have access to the most choice resources from the Host’s Limbchambers, Fleshpits and charnel houses. Instead, they have to scavenge battlefields or undertake personal raids in search of suitable parts for their projects. However, this makes them flexible and pragmatic improvisers who don’t shy away from using less subtle and monstrous grafts, a practice frowned upon in the upper castes. Eager to practice advanced techniques on themselves, they are easily recognizable by their mismatched limbs, hulking statue and gruff demeanor.
The Graftsman is a menacing adversary suitable for lower-level encounters, perhaps as the final boss in a questline rife with body horror, or as a higher-level henchman among elite undead. Their versatile set of abilities provides flexibility and is just fun to use, with enough variety and challenge to serve as a returning foe!
The Graftsman’s abilities and actions require planning and coordination. For example, its Chimeric Physiology allows it to choose from various options like increased speed, reduced incoming damage, or special attacks.
As the leader of a group of undead creatures, the Graftsman can coordinate their actions, making the encounter more challenging for the players. It can enhance the undead minions' abilities, direct them strategically, and provide a cohesive approach to the battle, thus acting as the lynchpin for the entire encounter.
