there's a very cool episode of the X-Men animated series where Wolverine and Captain America liberate a young Magneto from a concentration camp. Not sure if that was canon in the comics or it was done just for the animated series.

Teyon Alexander

Why Toad? Toad was Magneto’s original henchman. His Igor if you will. Including him is a nod back to the original Brotherhood Of Evil Mutants in the comics.

Dang, I thought I had watched every single episode of that series and don't have any memory of that one. I need to go back and look. In part because it's still probably the best representation of the X-Men in TV/film (and that theme song... what a fucking banger).

Adam Wetstein

the mutant at this time were a stand in for the gay community more so in x2 but also they made a magneto a jew while X is a Christian

1. Your (second) point is well taken. :-) 2. In an interview, Stan Lee claimed that he originally intended Xavier and Magneto to be brothers. 3. Some fans speculated that the reason for the retcon in the comics turning Magneto from Jewish to Roma was to avoid charges of antisemitism, given he was about to perform (yet another?) heel turn. 4. An article on the general issue: https://www.cbr.com/the-abandoned-an-forsaked-magneto-is-a-gypsy/ Some additional notes for this article: (i) Magneto first appeared in the first issue of the X-Men in 1963. (ii) Uncanny X-Men #150 if from 1981. (Of significance is that Kitty Pryde is a young Jewish teenager.) (iii) Uncanny #199 is from 1985. (iv) Classic X-Men #19 is from 1988.

If you're down with the cheese I'd love to go through all the x-men movies. I lost intrest with the really new ones but there are some real gems in there.

Dan Holmes

Can't wait for X2!

3:14 "I have here a list of names..." is a blatant reference to McCarthy, whom you encountered second-hand in Oppenheimer.

Toad was played by Ray Park, aka Darth Maul so at a few points in the movie you had gandalf and maul sharing screen time 🙌💚

Tomas Gaspar

I saw that on in the cinema and Wow!! I was so blown away allthough I was a bit put off that Magneto was an old man...in the comics he was more like middle Aged...and I am not talking about the other movies like First Class or so...

Thor Melsted

Ian McKellen was 60 when X-Men was shot, which is technically middle-aged, albeit at the tail-end.

Mister_Momus

Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver are both (typically) mutants and both had runs as Avengers. Spider-man is technically considered a mutant in several iterations, though his mutation is from the spider bite instead of natural evolution of an X-gene. Other scientifically generated powersets like super-soldier serum for Captain America, Winter Soldier, Hulk or mystic flower juice like Black Panther could be argued as mutation processes, but generally are not put in the same box as X-men mutants when those storylines overlap.
