Controversial Trivia. The film opened just two weeks after 9/11 and made headlines and angered some people when, a week before it was released in theaters, news came out that the World Trade Center was digitally removed from the background in at least one outdoor scene. There were many who felt it was disrespectful, especially this being just days after the attack and after other films with later release dates publicly announced they would be leaving the towers in their films. The filmmakers defended the decision to remove the towers from the background because this was a comedy and it was way too soon after the attacks. They pointed out that an audience laughing and having a good time on opening weekend would have suddenly gone silent and serious the moment the towers appeared in the background and killed the mood. I agreed with the filmmakers’ decision. It was too soon to have the towers in a comedy. When the film opened two weeks later, people were still walking around somber and, as a New Yorker downtown, we could still smell the smoking debris when the wind blew North. When Gangs of New York opened three months after 9/11, audiences had an emotional response to seeing the towers at the end of the film… seeing the towers in a comedy just two weeks after 9/11 would have definitely ended the laughs.

I love this movie, it's so silly. sadly the 2nd zoolander is pretty bad compared to this :/ people made so many memes about this movie, the newest one is the slowmo stare where Hansel walks past Derek, of course the pretty old ones like "what is this a X for ants?" or the "so hot right now" :D

I cannot believe it took me until just checking out James Marsden's IMDB (was just listening to his appearance on Pete Holmes's podcast) to realize that was him as John Wilkes Booth.

Another self-aware comedy that's really fun is Josie And The Pussycats. It has one of the best movie soundtracks ever.
