Dune Part One - Patreon Version

Check out the 1984 version of Dune - its outrageous and still epic despite its shortfalls (of which there are many). It is definitely worth watching.

When George and Simon were talking about how the character of "the chosen one" could be cliche. I was immediately reminded of The Golden Child with Eddie Murphy. Was this ever a consideration? I mean I haven't seen it since it came out in theaters, so it may not have aged well (unlike Eddie Murphy himself, haha). Anyway, back to watching the Dune reaction...

I've been trying to watch this movie for over a year now - when I bought/moved into my new house last year I built a really high end home cinema setup, huge OLED screen (it's now been replaced with a 100" laser projection system, Amazon spring sale amiright?), Atmos sound system, the works, lined up Shang Chi and Dune, then Shang Chi angered me to my core, got maybe a third of the way through Dune and packed it all up and every time I've tried to rewatch this or really any new movie I remembered how angry Shang Chi made me and couldn't do it, so I have a lot of movies I need to see but it was all stuck behind Dune. This reaction definitely helped me through it so maybe I'll be able to watch the movies I have backed up behind it :) This movie is cast like I was casting director, lol, lots of actors I really really like though I don't care what you say, Jason Momoa will always be Ronon Dex to me, eat it GoT fans. Funny thing is this movie has the tone of Jupiter Ascending to me even though that movie is universally hated. I did really like it though, the pacing is unusual but it totally works, and they did that one thing that the original Matrix movie did that they forgot to do in the sequels: they put care and attention into the vfx so it looks absolutely flawless, this is going to hold up for decades and that's a big deal. Hyped for the sequel now.

15 books? There are only 6 Dune books. The 6 books written by Frank Herbert. Not the...abominations puked out by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson.

My friends and I are flying 3700kms just to watch the second film on IMAX upon release.

I've been waiting for this reaction. Thank you, it was as awesome as I hoped it would be.

I hope you watch Lynch's Dune at some point.

Denis has the advantage of the latest technology for creating scale, so I think Lucas is a fitting comparison. Both were/are ahead of their time.

Jack Burton

George did a little spoiler in there

I was confused until i saw the runtime when they said part one. I thought they meant they are splitting the full reaction into two parts. And since part one is just called Dune. I was like WTF 0_o

I grew up playing the Dune PC games and then tried to read the books, but since I probably was too young and English is not my native language I could not get through the first one. I really like the first Dune movie from 1984 and I think that it is because of nostalgia of that movie and the PC games that I did not really like this new adaptation. Giving the movie another chance by watching it alongside Simone and George did help a lot to appreciate it more for what it is. I think it is great that the Dune universe/lore gets more attention now and hopefully it will lead to more entertaining movies, series and/or games.

don't read the book before the next movie. if you can't resist then don't read beyond this point in. the book. you really need to be surprised by the amazing things to come. Steve
