You didn't spot Wood Harris of Avon Barksdale fame in the first 10 minutes! Dredd was based on the movie The Raid, which is superb.

No, Dredd was not based on The Raid. Both films were in production at the same time. Any similarities are coincidental at best.

Questions? I've got answers. Yes, Dredd never takes his helmet off and he is always frowning. He does enjoy the violence, but only from the perspective of justice being served. His delivery of justice is clearly laconic in nature. "Choke on it, Dredd=Choke on that." The Hot Shot is most likely white phosphorous or a derivative, so it burns relentlessly through organic matter. It is likely he chose that to eliminate any autonomic response on the perp's trigger. He is a clone, so some genetic modifications on his emotions are likely. Yes, the bomb trigger didn't work because it was too far away/concrete too thick.
