This was fun. Thank you. Always a pleasure to cry with Simone.

Apparently I have some sort of eye allergy which was triggered by this movie, weird. I had to remember my Gramma Lucy, she had the best "grito" (she was Mexican, I am too but she was REAL Mexican lol and the best grandmother ever, she used to have a little shrine thing that she would pray in front of, with pictures of all the family, and she would put little offerings in front of it, my mom would lecture her about that being like witchcraft etc., I thought it was cool, I'm telling you those old Native Mexican rituals and stuff never died out, we have some of them in my family still), she didn't drink except if someone gave her a drink at special events, weddings etc, so my aunts and uncles would of course always give her drinks and after two or three she'd start singing with the Mariachi band, it was awesome! Miss her, she was even tough on the way out, they wanted to try this, that, or whatever operation and she was just like, I'm good, lived a great life.

I agree it is a good movie - I like seeing other culture's traditions. Try Moana, which is another good movie on Polynesian/Hawaiian cultrue

I love this movie. Mexican culture is so amazing, and I'm happy that Disney dipped its toe into it. On a more somber note, the end of this movie reminds me of my grammie's last years. She was pretty much totally disassociated and mostly non-verbal at that point. The last time I saw her, my family got together for her birthday. I noticed though that when we all sang happy birthday to her, she was singing along. I don't think she knew it was for her, but music is something that hits different in the brain than conversation. She didn't really remember any of us anymore, but she knew the song, and she seemed happy.

There's so much rich culture in the world, that it seems weird not to indulge in enjoying them all when it can be presented as well as Disney did for Coco, or Moana.

I can highly recommend the documentary Alive Inside (2014) which follows the founder of a non-profit called Music & Memory.Working with the families of dementia patients, he puts songs that they will know onto an MP3 player and the effect is nothing short of magical.

This movie destroyed me as much as it did Simone when I first watched it. Still made me cry again today. Thanks for watching this one guys! Interesting tidbit about this movie: When it was produced, Disney 100% assumed it would not make it through the Chinese censorship and thus lose out on the Chinese market, as it heavily focuses on the concept of "afterlife" and shows "ghosts", two things that are generally banned. However, when it made the Chinese censor board members committee cry as much as Simone did at the end of the movie, it was approved for the Chinese market. The story is probably a bit fallacious; The movie does promote family values that're similar to Chinese, as George pointed out: Respecting your elders, and memorializing your deceased family members, even if it does use a different culture to get those values across. Coco became a huge financial success in China (biggest Pixar release in that market by a factor of 4x), which was an unexpected financial boon for Disney.

unbelievable film - the quality of the animation is better than top tier, its an absolute joy to watch

This made me think of Highlander (1986) - maybe it's the mortality theme. Absolutely one of the best 80s movies with the most iconic Sean Connery role outside of Bond AND it has a Queen soundtrack. Highly recommended!

Jeez, I am always prepared to lose the battle against the floods with these movies, but that was a massive sobfest. Amazingly cathartic, ridiculous how people can engineer the feeling of being completely devastated... in a good way.
